St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for the smooth functioning of day-to-day operations for the Access Services Department, ensuring a high level of customer service. Evenings and weekends required.
Primary responsibilities include: Staffing the Library Checkout Desk and training/monitoring student workers
Opening/Closing the Library as needed
Processing interlibrary loan requests
Education / Experience:
Required: HS degree plus 2-3 years directly related experience (customer service, retail, library, etc.)
Preferred: Associate’s degree or 3+ years directly related experience
Competencies / Skills:
Customer service ability and experience.
Evidence of respect for, and understanding of, people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work positively and productively in a team oriented, fast paced, changing environment
Capacity to interact professionally with the public and to work as a team member with other employees
Supervisory experience (training and monitoring others’ work)
Working knowledge of Microsoft/Google applications
Ability to be flexible and handle frequent interruptions
Strong Attention to detail
Punctuality
Ability to work night and weekend hours (opening and/or closing) with flexibility for daytime hours and availability for emergency backup support

Normal sitting, standing, and walking throughout the course of the day.
Periods of extended computer usage.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds – incoming shipments, etc.
Requires dexterity and data entry skills.
Requires noise tolerance of patrons communicating and utilizing the library.
Nights (until midnight, 2am during finals) and weekends required
Work Hours:
20-25 hours/week, 12 months/year
