Job Summary
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank collaborates with schools and community organizations to improve year-round access to and participation in federally and privately funded child nutrition programs. By combining our community-based expertise with child nutrition program expertise, we listen to our community partner's needs and respond by connecting organizations, sharing information and resources, problem solving food access challenges, and equipping our partners to have increased capacity for feeding children. The Child Nutrition Outreach Coordinator develops and implements county specific outreach plans to increase the capacity and engagement of partners in Child Nutrition programs such as the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), School Meal Programs and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in Allegheny, Greene and Washington Counties. The Coordinator is responsible for providing support, resources and best practices to community stakeholders who implement child nutrition programs. This person works as a member of a team to achieve Child Nutrition goals and to fulfill the mission of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, to feed people in need and mobilize our community to eliminate hunger.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and recruit schools and community partners committed to ending child hunger in each county to participate in a County Child Nutrition Coalition. The Coalition focuses on working collaboratively to strengthen services that will expand access to food for the children in each county.Initiate and maintain strong partnering relationships with child nutrition stakeholders and support their efforts to increase engagement in other programs addressing childhood hunger in their communities through creative problem-solving, technical support, marketing support, small grants, and connections to helpful resourcesUse data to inform collaborative problem-solving with community partners to formulate a county plan to increase participation in child nutrition programsCommunicate with school staff about strategies for increasing participation in both school-based and community child nutrition programsAssist partners in identifying and overcoming barriers to increasing participation and access to child nutrition programsCarefully track partner information and measures and maintain a record of partner communications and support providedRegularly learn about best practices from anti-hunger organizations and child nutrition programs throughout the U.S. and share them with our network of partnersDeliver presentations to a variety of audiences to educate them about food insecurity and the role child nutrition programs play in alleviation of hungerWork towards benchmarks of increasing participation in child nutrition programs and increasing engagement of partners in other food assistance programsSupport team projects to continuously improve operations and strengthen service provided to our partnersCollaborate with the Food Bank's Technology and Development Teams to collect and analyze data for evaluation and prepare periodic written reportsAdvocate for improvements in federal child nutrition programs on state and federal levelsAdditional responsibilities as determined by the Manager of Child Nutrition ProgramsQualifications:
Bachelors' degree preferred in a relevant field or equivalent experience.A minimum of two years of experience working with social or huma service organizationsDemonstration of strong motivation to end hunger and commitment to addressing hunger in a holistic contextAbility, experience, and willingness to respectfully work with diverse populations, including the ability to engage with and build trust among people living in under-resourced communities. Possess an attitude of collaboration and teamwork for working with colleagues and a genuine joy for working with community organizationsUtilize high quality customer service skills including listening objectively and exhibiting calmness and helpfulnessDemonstrate an ability to solve problems creatively, to think critically to support partner problem solving and to persist until an effective solution is identifiedDemonstrate strong organization and time management skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, meet goals, and follow through on tasks. Great attention to detail and accuracyExcellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to publicly speak and develop presentations that deliver information to a variety of audiencesPossess excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort with learning new technology on a regular basisMust possess a vehicle and valid Pennsylvania Driver's license. Work travel is reimbursed at the federal reimbursement rate. This job requires regular travel throughout Allegheny, Greene, and Washington County. Must be willing to limit PTO taken mid-April through May due to demands of annual SFSP start-up during this timeAble to lift 25 pounds without assistanceCertificates
