Technical Duties:
Supervises the development, support, and implementation of LAN’s and their related operating systems including research and development efforts for new technology.
Supervises the installation, customization, and maintenance of approved vendor supplied software for LAN applications.
Coordinate with the Senior LAN and WAN Specialist to maintain optimal network performance.
Organizes and prepares LAN system documentation.
Studies and evaluates new methods and procedures to determine the adaptability to LAN/WAN Technology.
Develops training plan for technicians and specialists in the efficient use of computer hardware, network management tools, and LAN/WAN technology.
Supervisory Duties:
Provide direction and support for all computer technicians, specialists and senior specialists assigned to the area.
Address staffing requirements including recruiting, interviewing and hiring recommendations when necessary.
Support employee performance by administering performance reviews regularly.
Administer disciplinary actions as appropriate.
Maintain a staff schedule which provides computer technicians, qualified in the applicable technology, as requested by the customers.
Address district issues regarding assigned staff with a focus on customer service and fairness to the employee.
Maintain proper tracking and recording of services provided for billing purposes.
Provide for back-up support and growth opportunities by fostering cross training.
General Duties:
Maintain a working knowledge of all aspects of the assigned area of responsibility.
Ensure Project Tracking and Management procedures are followed.
Communicate with superintendents or district administration regarding any issues along with the Customer Service coordinator.
Lead the Technology Audit teams when audits are requested by districts.

Job Qualifications
Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:
Must hold permanent status as a Chief Microcomputer Technical Support Specialist; OR; Must be reachable on current Chief Microcomputer Technical Support Specialist civil service list (PROMO #73-781 or OPEN #62-966) ; OR; Must meet minimum qualifications for provisional* appointment as follows:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience in data processing which included at least one (1) year of experience in programming and/or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software and, one (1) year of experience in the installation and maintenance of LAN operating systems; or:
B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) or four (4) year college or university with an Associate’s degree in Data Processing, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field and six (6) years of experience in data processing which included at least one (1) year of experience in programming and/or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software, and one (1) year of experience in the installation and maintenance of LAN operating systems; or:
C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and eight (8) years of experience in data processing which included at least one (1) year of experience in programming and/or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software, and one (1) year of experience in the installation and maintenance of LAN operating systems; or:
D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C).
Additional Qualifications:
