Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, performs supervisory functions over professionalnursing and support staff in an inpatient unit, specialty clinic, ortreatment program in various patient care settings. Under generalsupervision, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standardsof professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics(2015) to provide care to all patients. Applies critical thinking,evidence-based policies, procedures, guidelines and competence tocollaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in patient safetyand quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in dailypractice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder /Director, Watson CarinThe Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care at either DowntownDetention Center or the Denver County Jail. These environments of care have ahigher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient andambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detentioncenters employ a high level of security, which impacts daily workingconditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinicaloperations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive,decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting.
Essential Functions:
Oversite of department/unit for assigned shift including adherence to policy(20%)Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includesinfant, pediatric, and Adult clinical care (10%)Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includespreventive care, emergent care/crisis response, triage skills, generalacute care skills, and behavioral health skills (10%)Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includesspecialty skills such as eating disorders, oncological care, and IVtherapy (10%)Delegation of duties amongst nursing and support staff (10%)Preparation of daily staffing assignments (10%)Oversite of patient care, admissions, and discharges (10%)Oversite of daily operations and escalation of communications (5%)Mentoring (5%)Evaluation and documentation of performance of nursing staff (5%)Facilitate patient flow (5%)Education:
Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program 1.Completion of an accreditednursing education program that satisfies the licensing requirements of theColorado State Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses RequiredWork Experience:
1-3 years Typically, a minimum of two (2) years of professional nursingexperience in a patient care setting Requiredless than 1 year Correctional Care experience preferredLicenses:
RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process /Performance [ANA Standards addendum- signed] and accrediting body standards.Strong understanding and display of the principals of customer service as itapplies to patients, staff and the communityAbility to assist in identifying ways to promote quality patient-centric careand maintain Denver Health's high level of patient satisfaction.
