Scope:Certified Surgical Technician responsibilities:Assist in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Assembles,organizes and completes case carts according to doctor's preference lists.Provide appropriate instrumentation, suture and all supplies as requestedand provides and maintains a sterile environment. May assist surgeons bypassing instruments to surgeons during cases.Count sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper technique andestablished policy.Assist in maintenance and care of specimens and prepares for laboratoryanalysis.Handle specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments,contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy andrecommended standards of practiceAssist with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacement andrestocking of supplies and equipment. Cares for instruments and equipment.May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competencyand qualifications) based on business need.May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Requirements:Graduation from a formal, accredited surgical technologist program isrequired.NCCT Surgical Technologist certification (TS-C) or NBSTSA certification isrequired.Registered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is required.Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers(BLS-HCP) certification upon hire.1 year OR scrubbing experience is preferred.1 year clinical experience in an accredited hospital is preferred.
