Telemetry Medicine/Surgical Oncology (9 East) Nurses on this unit obtainan Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Provider credential andadminister chemotherapy to inpatients. 9A is an innovative unit. Trying newthings and developing new processes allow staff to work at the highest levelof licensure and certification.
Telemetry Medicine (9 West): Since June of 2020, 9A has been caringfor COVID-19 patients and we excel in high acuity medical protocols that weredeveloped during the COVID-19 pandemic. 9A is often seen as a pipeline tocritical care, the Emergency Department, and other departments within thehospital due to the unique skills learned while caring for 9A patients. Thenurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 patient ratio and our CNA-to-patient ratio is1:12 most days.
Job Summary
Under general supervision, floats to all in-patient areas and EmergencyDepartment according to scope of practice according to the DH floatingguidelines. First to float to a different unit as the staffing needs of thehospital change. Assists professional nursing and care providers in providingcare to all patients with respect for their uniqueness. Collaborates with theRN and healthcare team. Assists with basic patient care and activities ofdaily living. Maintains unit specific documentation as required. Orders,maintains and utilizes supplies for the assigned unit.*Required to fulfill weekend/holiday and "hard to staff days" commitmentper departmental policy. Schedules will be posted in advance, but unitassignments will be given on a day-to-day basis.
Essential Functions:
Provides a safe environment for all patents. Assuring proper patient positionsand patient care throughout the patient's stay. (10%)Assists the RN/LPN in carrying out the established plan of care for assignedpatients. (10%)Practices sound safety and infection control practices according to hospitalpolicy and procedures (10%)Obtains vital signs and differentiates normal from abnormal findings. Reportsabnormal values or conditions to the RN/LPN. (EX. Abnormal VS,bleeding, safety concerns, family issues.) (10%)Participates as a member of the patient care team by asking for additionaltasks, or helping others when not busy. (10%)Accurately gathers information and performs data entry. (5%)Performs transportation responsibilities when requested; transportingpatients from one area to another; delivering laboratory specimens, bloodproducts, medications and other hospital/medical items to the requesteddepartments as needed; and includes access to the pneumatic tube system totransport items, including blood products and medications, to and fromthe tube and the desired location. (5%)Documents Plan of Care making sure information is properly transcribed andcomplete (5%)In coordination with the RN/LPN, implements care based on prioritizedpatient needs (5%)Participates in a unique, outcome focused plan of care based on currentnursing practice with measurable outcomes and goals for the patient/family(5%)Participates with the Coordination of care with multidisciplinary team (5%)Participates in the discharge planning process (5%)Assists the RN/LPN to identify realistic expected outcomes to facilitate thepatient's optimum level of health as well as the anticipated continuation ofcare. (5%)Performs chart audits to promote quality improvement. (5%)Promotes quality care based upon ongoing monitoring of patient/familyresponse or changing condition inclusive of quality control of appropriate systems and equipment (5%)Education:
