UPMC Shadyside is hiring a full-time Central Sterile Processing Technician to join our growing Surgical Processing team!
*This position is offering a Sign-On Bonus of up to $5,000 to external Sterile Processing hires that have at least 2 years of prior experience!
Our Surgical Processing team performs on average 60-65 surgeries in our main operating room and ambulatory surgery center. We also serve as support to several other departments throughout the hospital, including Anesthesia, Emergency Room, and Cardiology to name a few! Responsibilities
Prepare and assemble surgical tray and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
Conform and adhere to department policies concerning decontamination, sterile processing, infection control, and safety.
Maintain a working knowledge of, and effectively troubleshoot, all decontamination/sterilization equipment.
Demonstrate knowledge of performance improvement tools and techniques. Continuously improve the quality of care and the work environment of outcomes and the integration of research and best practices into daily work.
Share learning from improvements with other units and/or spreads across the business unit or system.
Assess supplies required for prescribed standard surgical procedures and set up case carts.
Maintain inventory, collect, disassemble, inspect, clean, disinfect, and reassemble all instrument trays patient care equipment.
Display awareness of cost containment in the organization of work by using economy in time, motion, and material.
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Six months of healthcare experience or currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program, preferred.
Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification required.
New employees will have 18 months from the date of hire to obtain the required certification
Employees active in a Central Sterile position, on or before the effective date, at a healthcare facility, are grandfathered regarding the certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification.
