  The University of Miami is currently seeking a Central Sterile Processing Technician 2 to work at Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables. The incumbent is responsible for preparing supplies and equipment for use during patient procedures achieving competency in two areas of sterile processing. The Central Sterile Processing Technician 2 receives, processes, stocks, and distributes supplies. Cleans and disinfects equipment requiring decontamination or sterilization, assembly, packing, sterilization, documentation, implantable, case carts, emergency carts, and supplies to surgical nursing units and ancillary departments assisting with daily operational flow.

  CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, stores, and distributes medical equipment, supplies and instruments used in patient care.2. Ensures adequate equipment and supplies are available to complete order requests.3. Transports instruments and supplies, delivering items to their destination within an efficient time frame prioritizing patient safety.4. Achieves and maintains productivity demand level for area by fulfilling order requests in a timely manner for patients from various hospital departments.5. Sets up of decontamination and assembly workstations daily following established standard of work processes (SOW) for all decontamination/sterilization, preparing and assembly.6. Transports case carts as requested, following established safety protocols and utilizes department tool aides to prevent errors. Assembles minor procedure instrumentation for nursing units, and all other ancillary departments. 7. Receives and sorts medical equipment and instruments returned to decontamination, loading/unloading cart washer, emergency carts, and sterile supplies. 8. Adheres to infection control and utilizes universal precautions PPE protocols. Participates in continuous process improvement and quality systems and stays abreast of related departmental practice guidelines and standards from the Joint Commission, AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses).9. Checks equipment for functionality and report malfunctioning equipment immediately to leadership.10. Provides reliable, high quality customer service to all department’s requests. Prepares and distributes request orders, including fulfilling phone order requests for supplies and equipment.11. Maintains distribution of equipment, supply records, and logbooks. Operates and maintains documentation of various sterilizers and processing equipment. 12. Maintains storage of sterile supplies/surgical instrumentation according to facility policies and procedures.13. Provides shift report to lead technician or leader of the pending and completed requests.14. Ensures patient charges and issued supplies are given daily to lead technician or leader by end of shift. 15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

  CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  Education:

  High school diploma or equivalent

  Certification and Licensing:

  Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Required

  Hold one of the following certifications Required.

  CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) IAHCSMM

  CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) CBSPD

  Certification maintenance required.

  Experience:

  Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

  DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

  Department Specific Functions

  Provide professional customer service to all department’s requests.2. Answer the phone in a professional courteous manner.3. Achieve and maintain productivity demand level for area. 4. Must utilize department tool aides to prevent errors.5. Transport case carts as requested following established safety protocols.6. Transport/ “run” instruments and supplies, delivering items to their destination within an efficient time frame prioritizing patient safety.7. Adhere to infection control and utilize universal precautions PPE (personal protection equipment) protocols.8. Daily set up of both decontamination and assembly workstations.9. Facilitate staging in decontamination; separating sets based on processing requirements and processing locations.10. Follow established standard of work processes (SOW)for all Decontamination areas. 11. Receive used medical equipment or instruments from various departments.12. Clean, disinfect, decontaminate surgical instrumentation.13. Report broken, malfunctioning instrumentation immediately to leadership.14. Clean, disinfect, decontaminate medical equipment.15. Decontaminate and prepare equipment for redistribution.16. Check equipment for functionality.17. Report malfunctioning equipment immediately to leadership.18. Load/Unload Cart Washer with Containers and Case Carts.19. Operate Sterilizers, Washer Disinfector, Endoscope Reprocessor, Ultrasonic machine and prepare HLD solution (high-level disinfectant).20. Perform daily equipment, cleaning, testing and document results.21. Maintain and store sterilizer documentation records.22. Follow established standard of work processes (SOW)for preparing and assembly.23. Prepare and distribute request orders.24. Follow instrument count sheets and photos for assembly.25. Assemble, inspect, and prepare instruments for proper sterilization methods.26. Utilize provided resources to follow IFU (Instructions for use) to ensure patient safety.27. Choose appropriate wrapper size and label items designated for wrapping method.28. Choose appropriate containers and accessories for instrument trays.29. Perform quality assurance checks on trays, containers, and wrappers.30. Inspect for holes in wrappers, cuts in container seals, bent lids, missing pieces, cracks etc.31. Report to shift manager and/or designee any malfunctions or discrepancies immediately.32. Clean assigned workstation at start of shift. 33. Restock workstation supplies at end of shift.34. Assist with department rounding when needed. Provide professional customer service to all departments’ requests.35. Contact Clinical Engineering for malfunctioning equipment.36. Stock and prepare emergency floor carts. 37. Maintain distribution of equipment and supplies records.38. Maintain sterile supplies according to facility policy and procedure.39. Fulfill phone order request for supplies and equipment.40. Return all unused supplies and equipment to shelves.41. Document and credit supply returns.42. Follow established standard of work processes (SOW)for Case carts.43. Communicate with OR clinicians for preference sheet verification.44. Prepare OR surgical case carts and maintain sterility.45. Perform quality assurance check on items as being placed into case carts. Ensuring sterility. 46. Maintain storage of sterile surgical instrumentation.47. Follow established standard of work processes (SOW)for Sterilization.48. Set up a sterilizer load according to sterilization type and IFU. (instructions for use) 49. Load and run the Steam sterilizer following standard work (SOW), and IFU’s (instructions for use).50. Load and run the Sterrad sterilizer following standard work (SOW), and IFU’s (instructions for use).51. Proficient in utilizing tracking system automatic and/or manual.52. Maintain logbooks.53. Give shift report to Lead technician or manager pending and completed requests.54.
