About CCE of Warren County Nutrition and Food Systems Educator – Warrensburg, NY

  The CCE Warren Nutrition Education program provides evidence-based nutrition education programs to help promote optimal health to individuals, families, and groups.

  The Nutrition and Food Systems Educator develops and delivers programs on topics like food preparation, safety, and storage, healthy meals and recipes, food systems, stretching food dollars, farm-to-school, food preservation, wild game and edibles, health living, and other related topics. Programs are provided in schools, senior centers, public libraries, community centers, virtually, and more using hands-on, interactive cooking and teaching methods.

  The Nutrition and Food Systems Educator works as part of a dynamic team assisting each other with programs, events, and other initiatives as needed.

  Required Qualifications

  Master’s degree.

  Ability to help ensure diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs.

  Ability to meet regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

  Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

  Program Skills – Ability to assess, develop, deliver, and evaluate programs. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment. Ability to identify and secure funding that supports programs including sponsorships, grant writing, developing public and private partnerships. Ability to develop and maintain partner relationships, serve on advisory boards, committees, and work teams.

  Communication Skills - Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with others.

  Technology Skills - Microsoft Office suite, database, and internet software. Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and deliver virtual programs as needed.

  Work Environment – In addition to the Working Conditions; the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions. This position works in a typical office environment and frequently works in community-based settings. The position frequently lifts, moves, or transports program related materials and equipment. The position regularly shops for program materials and food. This position frequently demonstrates recipes and meal preparation techniques. This position occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Degree or coursework in nutrition, health education, public health, or related fields.

  Strong working knowledge of nutrition science, food systems, youth development, and education.

  Familiarity with programs like Women, Infants, and Children, Food Stamps, and Farm to School.

  Familiarity with food systems, including wild game.

  Working knowledge of food preservation techniques.

  ServSafe training and certification.

  Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  Program Responsibilities:

  Program Assessment – 15%

  Apply subject matter knowledge to identify gaps and trends in the community.

  Assess the program, analyze needs, and make recommendations for improvements.

  Maintain direct linkage with Cornell University and funders for program assessment guidance.

  Ensure program assessment is within scope of the statewide Plan of Work.

  Program Development – 15%

  Develop programs and program materials to meet the need of diverse program participants.

  Maintain direct linkage Cornell University and funders for program development guidance.

  Ensure program development is within scope of the statewide Plan of Work.

  Program Delivery – 30%

  Create lesson plans and deliver programs.

  Serve as subject matter expert; provide highly complex nonstandard responses.

  Serve as a liaison with partner organizations, attending meetings, etc.

  Represent CCE as a subject matter expert before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

  Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.

  Interact with program participants.

  Maintain direct linkage with Cornell University and funders for program delivery guidance.

  Evaluate and utilize a variety of proven educational methodologies.

  Ensure program delivery is within scope of the statewide Plan of Work.

  Program Evaluation – 10%

  Apply subject matter knowledge to evaluate educational programs.

  Make recommendations for improvements.

  Administrative Responsibilities:

  Direction – 10%

  Plan assigned programs, recruitment and communication strategies.

  Develop, expand, and enhance relationships for the program.

  May assist with research and apply for grants and contracts for sustained funding.

  Management – 10%

  Manage assigned programs, recruitment, and communication strategies.

  Ensure grant and funder requirements are met.

  Monitor program to ensure that educational content conforms to research base.

  Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.

  Support Master Food Preserver volunteer recruitment, and involvement.

  Provide supervision and guidance to interns and seasonal staff as needed.

  Coordination/Operation – 5%

  Coordinate and schedule assigned programs.

  Coordinate CCE Warren farm-to-school efforts in collaboration with others.

  Recruit program participants.

  Responsible for weekly, monthly, and annual program reporting.

  Complete all required documentation and reports in a timely manner.

  Draft standard communications, impact statements, take photos, etc.

  Maintain program records and data.

  Compile program materials and inventory.

  Professional Improvement – 5%

  In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

  Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

  Position Details

  This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation paid at the rate of $56,000 annually. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
