Job Summary
Performs journeyman level carpentry work in the planning, laying out, construction, repair, and assembly of temporary and permanent buildings, additions, partitions and wooden structures, and fixtures; provides technical guidance and direction to other carpenters, tradesmen, and helpers; repairs furniture, draperies, blinds, and teaching accessories; and the constructs all millwork/casework and related items using a variety of supplies, tools, and equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Performs journeymen level carpentry work in the construction, repair, and renovations of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and screens from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions. Constructs and repairs cabinets, counters, drawers, bookcases, tables, moldings, picture frames, and other similar items. Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions and replaces damaged ceiling and floor tiles and equipment.
Operates woodworking equipment and machines to saw, plane, drill, or mortise lumber for doors, cabinets, shelves, moldings, and related fixtures; cuts mortises for locks and hinges; and hangs doors.
Estimates amount of required lumber and supplies for projects and selects type of lumber and supplies necessary.
Provides technical guidance and direction to other carpenters, tradesmen, and helpers and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and registrations that are required. Valid Drivers License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Skill in determining the kind and use of standard tools and equipment of the profession aswell as the ability to maintain and care for hand and power tools.
Ability to perform maintenance, to follow instructions, and to interpret drawings and diagrams.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to operate office machines, including calculator, and personal computer.
