About Campus Police Officer I

  The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking dynamic applicants for the role of Campus Police Officer. The selected candidate conducts patrols to protect life and property and to maintain a secure campus environment by assuring compliance with laws, rules, and regulations. Please note: These are full-time, 40-hour positionsone on firstshift 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 pm. and one on second shift 2:00pm-10:00pm with every other weekend off. Schedules are as follows: Schedules: 1st Shift 6:00 a.m. - 2:00pmWeek 1days off are Sunday/Thursday ,Week 2Tuesday/Saturday 2nd Shift 2:00pm - 10:00 pmWeek 1days off are Wednesday/Saturday, Week 2Sunday/Thursday 3rd Shift 10:00pm - 6:00amWeek 1days off are Sunday/Wednesday ,Week 2Tuesday/Saturday _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Patrols all buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas of the hospital at regular intervals and guards against trespass, theft, fire, and damage to property. * Exercises police powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators; investigates accidents and complaints. * Maintains order among visitors and staff; maintains motor vehicle traffic controls on hospital grounds including parking, speeding and other traffic conditions and takes necessary measures to prevent unauthorized use of hospital roads and parking facilities. * Performs security duties such as screening visitors, directing traffic, and enforcing parking controls * Provides personal protection to individuals as required including but not limited to, searching for missing goods and persons, conducting surveillance, and investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activities. * Assist in case of emergencies such as heavy snowstorms, internal or external disaster, and calling for professional assistance. * Facilitates in-service trainings as needed on fire and crime prevention, and basic safety standards and practices for hospital personnel/staff and outside agencies utilizing hospital buildings and/or grounds. * Coordinates the maintenance of hospital firefighting equipment, alarm systems and other safeguards; reports defects and request repairs to ensure compliance with safety standards and requirements. * Monitors hospital switchboard, gauges, and alarm indicator panels; takes necessary action in event of malfunction or alarm, including system resets. * Prepares reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents during tour of duty. _Required Qualifications:_ * Skilled in dealing tactfully with others and interact with individuals who are under physical and/or emotional stress. * Ability to apprehend trespassers and violators of the law. * Talent for maintaining a calm manner, making decisions, and acting quickly in dangerous, stressful, or emergency situations. * Capacity to exercise discretion in handling confidential information. * Demonstrated ability in documenting reports to gather information through questioning individuals, conducting interviews, and examining records and documents. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Prior health care facility security experience. * Ability to solve problems and relate to hospital staff, constituents, and other community members in a positive and professional manner. * Talent for recognizing the cultural diversity of the campus community and ensure sensitive and equitable treatment of all who work and visit the campus. * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. _About Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH):_ Located on over 100 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations. WRCH provides inpatient services to 290 adults, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service, and 30 adolescents on the ACCU. _DMH Mission Statement:_ The Department of Mental Health assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health needs of individuals of all ages, enabling them to live, work and participate in their communities.
