  THE POSITION

  Be the change for the future! The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution at Phoenix has an amazing opportunity for you to share your experience and knowledge with Pennsylvania inmates as a teacher in building trades and custodial maintenance.

  DESCRIPTION OF WORK

  As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for the instruction and training of inmate students in the vocational areas of building trades, custodial maintenance, and other closely related job skills. In this role, you will provide both theory and hands-on instruction while exercising therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates.

  Join the DOC team in their mission to reduce criminal behavior by providing individualized treatment and education to offenders, resulting in successful community reintegration through accountability and positive change.

  Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  Full-time employment (37.5-hour work week)

  Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

  QUALIFICATIONS

  Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical;or

  If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.

  Special Requirements:

  This position requires possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or

  This position requires possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or

  This position requires eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.
