  Job Description:

  The Stanford Law School Office of Business Affairs, which encompasses our finance and accounting offices, is recruiting for a Budget and Financial Analyst to serve as the primary analytical support for the school’s expanding academic, research, and executive education activities. This newly created position will join an existing core team of four SLS finance and accounting staff members whose responsibility is to provide stellar financial stewardship of school resources.

  Reporting to the Senior Director of Business Affairs, the position is crucial in guiding and driving the business management and fiscal operations of the school, while also being an essential resource for Law School personnel (faculty, academic and staff) and students, and in some cases, university departments and colleagues. The Budget and Financial Analyst will perform complex finance functions and activities requiring advanced knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems.

  The position entails a myriad of functions, such as: constructing and assembling complex data for building SLS consolidated budgets; creating and designing monthly and ad hoc financial reports; contributing to SLS fiscal strategies and priorities; scrutinizing expenditure and fund statements; preparing financial presentations for SLS Advisory Board meetings; reviewing multiple accounts (PTAs) and detailed transactions; and ensuring financial compliance with university policies. In this role you may advise, train, review, and coach the finance and budget related work of faculty, staff, and students throughout the school.

  Core Duties:

  Capture, track, and report consolidated revenues, transfers and expenses. Determine appropriate practices for accounting record preparation, research of transactions, and financial reporting.

  Perform and design ad hoc analyses of large data sets, including those with complex organization and accounting structures.

  Analyze financial transactions and information to summarize fiscal position. Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high-level summary of recommendations.

  Collect data and perform research on transactions. Generate, review, and communicate information that reflects actual financial activity against budget. Prepare and present quantitative and qualitative analyses focusing on variances.

  Maintain, reconcile, and validate data utilizing financial reports and key information.

  Conduct analyses and resolution and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes.

  Create and analyze monthly and ad hoc budget and financial reports, often generated from multiple financial systems and dashboards (Oracle and Tidemark).

  Contribute, as member of finance budget team, to the development of SLS long-range consolidated financial forecast.Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.

  Develop and build presentations and reports of complex financial data and metrics for school and university administration and third parties.

  Provide financial and budget guidance to SLS constituents; serve as resource on matters requiring specific subject matter expertise.

  Education and Experience:

  Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred.

  Four years of relevant work experience, or combination of education and relevant work experience.

  Knowledge and Skills:

  Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office; especially Excel.

  Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with accounting/financial systems and the internet; computer literacy.

  Understanding of and ability to apply accounting skills and concepts.Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute or lead part of a multi-functional project team.

  Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.

  Preferred:

  Knowledge of financial systems – such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, and Tidemark.

  Understanding of university fund accounting practices.

  Knowledge of event management and registration systems – such as Salesforce, Eventbrite, and Cvent.

  Proven ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy under tight deadlines.

  Project management skills.

  The expected pay range for this position is $78,000 to $118,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
