Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Budgets in the Clinical Trials Office (the "CTO") of Columbia University's ("CU") Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons ("VP&S") and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital ("NYPH"), the Budget Analyst is responsible for reviewing research protocols to create budgets to assess financial feasibility and compliance of industry-sponsored clinical trial budgets.
The CTO, which operates as a joint venture between VP&S and NYPH, assists Columbia University (University) faculty and academic/research staff in the development of industry sponsored and investigator initiated clinical trials and clinical research (collectively, Clinical Trials) and provides administrative resources and infrastructure to build and sustain Clinical Trials research at CU.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
Reviews the sponsor budgets and protocols with CU faculty and their research staff to determine financial feasibility and makes modifications to meet cost expectationsNegotiates budgets and payment terms for clinical trials directly with representatives of industry sponsorsBuilds all negotiated & executed trials into the clinical trials management system (CTMS) and according to detailed formats required by the system and budgetGuides investigators and research personnel regarding institutional requirements such as indirect cost rates, pre-award processes (Institutional Review Board, Research Pharmacy and RASCAL) as well as the budgetary impact.Creates a budget based on the research protocol to determine financial feasibilityEnsures compliance of clinical research budgets with University, CTO, VP&S and NYPH policies & proceduresProvides principal investigators and research personnel with effective communications regarding progress of budget negotiationsUpdates & maintains all activity on current databases & workflow trackersLiaises between trial sponsors and CU research community for budgetary mattersLiaises with VP&S Central Administration offices & NYPH affiliates such as NYPH Procurement Office, Billing Compliance and Financial AccountingPrepares departmental reports and manage special projectsPerforms related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.Three years of related experience.Preferred Qualifications
Three years experience in health care or clinical researchMicrosoft Office proficiency: Word & ExcelExcellent interpersonal communication (both written & verbal) skillsExcellent organizational and time management skillsKnowledge of Human Subjects Research
