　　General Summary:

　　CNN Digital Worldwide is hiring a Breaking News Writer for our Asia-Pacific team in Hong Kong.

　　The successful candidate will thrive in a pressurized deadline-driven environment – covering the big, important stories of the day with accuracy and speed.

　　As a Breaking News Writer you’ll work within a global team, picking up from, and collaborating with, teams around the world to break and contextualize the biggest stories of the day across CNN’s digital platforms.

　　You’ll have a deep knowledge of international news and current affairs as well as an appetite to dive into new subjects and quickly get up to speed.

　　The successful candidate must have exceptional editorial judgment and demonstrated versatility within a digital news team at an international media company.

　　Key Responsibilities:

　　Working within a team of digital writers and editors on breaking news coverage, covering multiple regions and subjects.

　　Writing international-caliber breaking news with clarity, context and urgency while following digital best practices (eg SEO, mobile headlines etc).

　　Moving between different story formats, including taking the lead in delivering minute-by-minute updates on CNN’s live stories.

　　Working with newsgathering and TV colleagues for cross-platform storytelling opportunities.

　　Navigating quickly between different communication tools, while determining what’s editorially important.

　　Framing stories and suggesting clever, compelling and accurate headlines to editors.

　　Contributing story ideas at daily editorial meetings and longer-term pitch meetings.

　　Ensuring all journalism produced adheres to CNN standards and integrity.

　　Experience required:

　　Minimum 3 to 5 years writing breaking news at a global media company or another outlet with a large audience.

　　Comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

　　Deep knowledge, passion and interest for international news. A curiosity to keep learning, to think critically and a strong desire to make CNN’s coverage reflective of the world we cover.

　　Perfect grasp of written and spoken English.

　　Understanding of journalistic standards and media law.

　　Self-starter with a history of delivering outstanding journalism.

　　Language skills desirable.
