Position Summary
Position is responsible for providing body maintenance and repair work on all City vehicles in support of the operating departments.
Position Responsibilities
Position is responsible for providing body maintenance and repair work on all City vehicles in support of the operating departments. Mixes and applies body filler, primer, paint and other compounds as needed for metal, plastics and fiberglass bodies and components.
Straightens and repairs various parts of vehicle body, and/or chassis.
Operates all types of vehicles.
Prepare the necessary documents for parts and labor accountability.
Makes written estimates of repairs when assigned.
Responsible for maintaining and for keeping up to date job skills with regards to technology by attending training, seminars, etc.
Observes all job-site safety regulations.
Responsible for all tools/equipment supplied by the City. May be required to work overtime. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.
Qualifications
Three years of work experience in body repair or related area.
A.S.E. certified or equivalent certification. Commensurate work experience is considered equivalent to include experience on the job.
Ability to read and understand operating manuals, service manuals, written instructions, as well as, verbal orders relative to job duties.
Knowledge and ability to use tools such as pick hammers, wedge hammers, dollies, spoons and spray painting equipment, including HVLP spray equipment.
Experienced with body repair process from straightening metal to sanding, grinding and patching.
Ability to safely utilize mechanics tools and equipment.
Knowledge of vehicular and equipment nomenclature. Ability to test and operate equipment.
Ability to require advanced knowledge of repair procedures and techniques applicable to the equipment owned or repaired by the City of Indianapolis or the County of Marion.
Expertise in the use of gas weld, arc weld, solder lead and various body fillers.
Must have advanced knowledge of all safety procedures and safety equipment involved in the repair and maintenance of vehicles or equipment on which you work.
Skill set to paint various types of equipment. Ability to match colors when painting.
Ability to lift and carry over 55 lbs.
Capability to perform the following assignments: straight pulling, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling and repeated bending.
Proficiency for rapid mental muscular coordination simultaneously.
Required to obtain and hold a valid Indiana operator's license upon reporting for work.
Depth perception required. Ability to distinguish basic colors and various shades.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
