Visit www.cdc.gov Responsibilities As a Behavioral Scientist, you will: Conduct research projects in various aspects of behavioral, social and cultural influences on questionnaire response, and techniques. Prepare reports, articles describing findings from research projects that present new theories, concepts and approaches and represent important additions to the body of scientific knowledge relating to questionnaire design. Prepare documents for peer review and publication in scientific journals. Present research findings at meetings of professional organizations and provides advice and consultation on the application of research findings within and outside National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). Collaborate with NCHS professional staffs in adapting survey interview methodologies to incorporate research findings and reduce the impact of non-sampling errors on the validity of survey data and resulting survey products. Assess the impact of research findings on NCHS survey methodology, questionnaire design and other aspects of on-going design activities, and disseminates research findings throughout NCHS. Basic Qualifications: Degree: A behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Minimum Qualifications GS-12: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: designing and conducting research projects dealing with the behavioral, social, cognitive and/or statistical dimensions of survey responses. Minimum Qualifications GS-13: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing technical advice and assistance in conducting, designing, methodology utilization and analyzing research projects on behavioral, social, cognitive and/or statistical dimensions of survey responses. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
