  Overview

  Barge Master – Marine Operations

  UIC, Bowhead Transport seeks a full-time, land / sea-based Marine Operations Barge Master to oversee the barge operations at all ports of call. Responsibilities include but are not limited to stow planning, receiving freight, documentation, reconciliation, conducting safety meetings and writing reports. Regular travel throughout Alaska between the months of April through October is expected.

  Responsibilities

  Essential Functions Include:

  Directing all aspects of barge cargo operations at any/all ports of call

  Production of all required voyage documentation

  Receiving cargo in preparation for voyage sailings

  Loading and securing cargo to the vessel

  Conducting regular safety and risk mitigation meetings

  Training crews on all cargo operation procedures

  Safely operate various cargo moving equipment (as needed)

  Extensive and frequent travel throughout Alaska between April & October

  Preferred Experience:

  5 years minimum cargo operations experience

  3 years of experience in operating at least a 40T forklift on a barge/landing craft

  Must have a valid Driver’s License

  Knowledge of shipping hazardous materials

  Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test

  Must be able to pass an Air Force background check

  The ability to obtain an NSTC (North Slope Training Cooperative) training certification and a BP Transit Badge

  Excellent Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills

  Smartsheet experience is a plus

  Physical & Environmental Demands:

  The work environment varies and includes, but is not limited to, docks, ports, bays, beaches, waterways, office space, equipment rooms, warehouse space, construction zones, and outdoor environments. Work hours may fluctuate outside of normal duty hours. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is:

  Repetitive neck, shoulder, wrist, and lower back movements.

  Static neck, shoulders, wrist, and lower back postures.

  Walking, sitting, standing, and climbing.

  Handling of cables, chains, or hooks.

  Crane Operators must be aware of the boom's location and the object being moved relative to other pieces of equipment, the barge, and personnel.

  Particular attention is paid to other workers who may give hand signals to guide the object's movement through the workspace.

  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required.

  Perform work in dusty environments and all temperature/weather conditions.

  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and noise.

  Walking on slippery, uneven surfaces.

  Remote work sites with limited resources & infrastructure.

  Work with a safety-first mindset.
