About Bagger Operator

  Description:

  Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the code dater is set up each morning (1st shift) with the correct code date according to the product specifications and work order.

  o Ensure it is printed correctly and is legible.

  • Ensure the correct bags are pulled for the day according to Work Orders.

  o Ensure all boxes of bags are always kept on a pallet.

  • Ensure the correct bag is being used for the product being run according to Work Orders.

  • Ensure correct count is being put into the bags.

  • Ensure the stacker is set up correctly for the product being run:

  o Correct plates

  o Correct program

  o Correct counts

  o Guides are set up correctly.

  • Ensure the bagging machine (if applicable) is set up correctly for the product being run:

  o Arms are set to the correct position for the size being run.

  o Bags are set in the machine correctly.

  o Speeds & settings are adjusted accordingly.

  • Ensure the sealer is set up correctly.

  o Must be turned on and set at a temperature not too hot to melt the bag but hot enough to seal it.

  o Belt speeds must be set correctly to ensure the bag goes through straight and gets a good seal

  o The top belt must be down far enough to ensure it is pressing out as much air as possible from the bags.

  • Ensure the palletizer has his/her tape machine set up correctly.

  • Verify with the line operator what product is being produced; when changeovers will occur; when there are issues in packaging; etc.

  • Ensure QA has the work orders for the day in a timely manner to print prior to production.

  • Ensure line is ready for production to run at 6:00 am on a daily basis for first shift. For second shift, ensure the line does not shut down for shift changeover.

  • Notify QA of any issues with the code dater outside of changing the date.

  • Make minor equipment adjustments for changeovers.

  o Guides

  o Counter stacker plates; program

  • Hang up & cover any unused equipment. No equipment is to touch the floor.

  • Make any necessary changeovers in packaging supplies.

  o Bags; clips; etc.

  • Notify maintenance immediately of any mechanical failures.

  • Ensure top quality products are being made as you package. Check for the following, but not limiting, quality deficiencies:

  o Shape: tortilla must be round, not oval

  o Tears: No wholes, or torn edges, pieces, etc. in the stacks

  o Folds: No folded tortillas

  o Scrap: No scraps of masa baked into the stack

  • Ensure the Kwik-Lok machine is full of clips & functioning properly at the start of and throughout every day.

  • Responsible for maintaining organization in the work area.

  o Ensure product is not piled up on the floor; bags are not piled up; all packaging boxes are on pallets; product is not piled up on tables; etc.

  • Responsible for cleaning up the area at the end of the shift; putting away any unused packaging in their correct location on the shelves (all shelves are labeled); product is swept up off the floor; there is no product left in equipment; etc.

  • All stations are responsible for helping other team members clean the work area.

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and GMPs, and enforce your line to do the same.

  • Complete all assigned finished good paperwork daily & turn in with palletizing reports every day.

  • Report any/all food safety and/or quality concerns to your supervisor, QA, or a member of management.

  Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to work at a pace to keep up with production so the line doesn’t fall behind.

  • Must be able to stand on your feet for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, twist, push, and/or pull up to 10-50 pounds.

  Additional Requirements:

  • Weekends and overtime may be required.

  • Must be able to work as a team.

  • Must be able to work in adverse temperature conditions.

  Back-up Personnel

  • Any other production personnel shall be trained to cover the duties of the packaging line lead.

  • The Production Supervisor may also serve as a backup for all packaging line lead duties.
