  DESCRIPTION OF WORKAn employee in this position will complete the following duties:Performs skilled maintenance and repair of a large variety of cars, trucks and tractors, assorted construction equipment such as rollers, sweeper, and mixers, and powered hand tools. Performs repairs on diesel equipment with exception of the diagnostics, parts rebuilding and repair of the air brake system, and diesel engine fuel injection system (injectors and pumps).Performs repairs and carries out a preventive maintenance program on vehicles, equipment, and parts.Performs oil changes, automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, repairs and replaces engine sub-assemblies, cooling system repairs and adjustments, suspension, electrical, heating and air conditioning, fuel, brake, steering and driveline systems.Performs official state safety and emissions inspections on vehicles assigned under their license class. Ensures repairs are compliant with specifications, road tests vehicles, fills out inspection stickers and affixes to vehicle, and completes State Inspection Records and related paperwork.Performs work on diesel equipment such as, oil changes and servicing filters, replacing water pumps, gaskets, and other parts. Performs repairs on electrical systems, cooling systems, suspension, and driveline systems, and carrying out other repairs.Performs necessary field adjustments to permit safe operation and minimize wear. Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance work on equipment which includes cleaning and servicing equipment. Demonstrates repair techniques on assigned equipment to other employees. Assists other Diesel Mechanics in making major repairs to equipment. Maintains equipment records.Performs emergency road service, and occasionally completes maintenance and repairs outside of garage in a field environment at County Stockpiles.Performs burning and cutting operations using oxy/acetylene torches as needed.Obtains parts and supplies as needed. May provide original equipment manufacturer (OEM) information to purchasing personnel so that proper parts can be obtained. Performs automotive records and reports.Maintains assigned work area in clean, safe condition using proper safety procedures and protective equipment. Is aware of work area hazards and initiates proactive accident and injury avoidance measures. Reports all personal injuries immediately and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury.Follows proper call off procedures. Schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and mealtimes; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others; is available for overtime emergency responses; and minimizes nonproductive and down time for self and crew.Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee.Fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs.Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District's and County's actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, each employee fulfills the maintenance unit business plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP). Also, supports the efforts of our employees to meet these objectives.Attends environmental training designated for this position in the District's SEMP Manual for Sound Environmental Practice.

  Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment.Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Winter shifts will be required. During Winter shifts can be 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 to 8:00 PM.Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.You will receive further communication regarding this position via email.   QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; orAny combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

  Necessary Special Requirements:This position requires possession of a current and valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.This position requires possession of a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Class 1 Certified Inspection Mechanic.

  Additional Requirements:You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  Post-Employment Requirement:This position requires employees to obtain a CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate and a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate within the probationary period.You must supply your own tool box and basic tools.
