Here, you will make an impact by:Build and GuideInspire, coach and lead product development teams to explore and develop new product solutions to OEM customers most difficult design challenges.Work with Senior Management, Product Development and Quality/Regulatory functions to develop and manage multi-year Automotive Electrification laboratory capability planning.Contribute to the development of intellectual property including patents and trade secrets.Create and maintain an organizational culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment, a sense of urgency toward goals, and continuous improvement. Challenges team members to question the status quo and ensure that all aspects of the design, development, and support process are optimal for the industrial/commercial market.Educate internal stakeholders, application development engineers and product development teams.UnderstandMonitor market trends to support the management of technology roadmaps.Key system, component and material performance requirements and related test methods.EngageCollaborate with global sales leaders to engage OEM electric motor designers with the application of 3M Science to solve their top design challenges.Represent 3M on key industry automotive standards and regulation granting organizations.Thought leadership - influence industry Key Opinion Leaders.Listen and ConnectWork with product teams to understand customer electric motor system needs & use cases.Identify, lead or support major technical programs to develop the next generation of solutions for automotive electrification applications.Develop and commercialize innovative new product solutions to address customers most difficult electric motor design challenges.Understand electric/hybrid powertrain system performance requirements, and work with analysis teams to evaluate systems level product performance, and analyze, document, and present performance results.PrioritizeCollaborate across 3M businesses and Corporate Research Laboratories to manage, prioritize and resource top project concepts.Support the development of electric motor/electric machine product strategy/roadmaps that best support 3M globally.Your Skills and ExpertiseTo set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:Bachelors degree in Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science or Physics (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.Ten (10) year track record of accomplishments and demonstrated curiosity, continual learning and system level thinking in a private, public, government, or military environment.Five (5) years as DRE or R&D Engineer at automotive OEM or Tier 1 Supplier with focus on electric motors in a private, public, government, or military environment.Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:Deep experience collaborating with electrical designers, mechanical designers, modelers, materials engineers, manufacturing, and process development teams.Working knowledge of automotive electric motor standards, regulations, requirements, and related te t methods.Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly.Demonstrated expertise and success in exploratory new products/platform work and commercialization, including effective customer engagement.Demonstrated leadership, communication, and networking skills.Proficient with 3D CAD electric motor and/or electric machine design and performance modeling.Understanding of the supplier and manufacturing landscape for EV electric motors.Work location:Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to 3M Center, Maplewood, MN at least 3 days per week)Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/internationalRelocation Assistance: May be authorizedMust be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).Supporting Your Well-being3M offers many programs to help you live your best life both physically and financially.
