Job Description:
As the Controls Engineering Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and overseeing all aspects of electrical, control, software, and automation system design and development projects. You will also play a key role in the design and implementation of automated controls systems for high-speed, automated machinery. This is a leadership position that requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to drive innovation and team development.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and People Development:Provide guidance, support, and assistance to team members throughout the design and development process, ensuring organizational goals are met.
Foster an environment of innovation and growth through collaboration, out-of-the-box thinking, and open-mindedness.
Continuously improve team performance by understanding the team's skillset and aspirations, identifying gaps, and creating action plans for skill development.
Create an inclusive and positive working environment by monitoring team performance, providing feedback, and ensuring the success of team members.
Maintain, track, and report on the performance of the controls engineering team against performance metrics.
Technology Trends - Innovation & Automation:Stay updated on industry trends, technology offerings, and best practices related to controls engineering.
Identify new innovations and strategic opportunities for automating machine operations (IIoT, Robotics, Machine Learning, AI) to enhance productivity, quality, reliability, and safety.
Provide a roadmap for the conception and development of automated solutions.
Processes, Tools, and Standards:Develop and implement engineering standards and tool sets to improve efficiency and quality in controls engineering.
Establish and maintain controls team standards, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards such as UL, NEC, NFPA 79, CE, and ANSI.
Ensure robust project documentation, change management, and revision control.
Drive continual improvement by identifying opportunities for process enhancement and providing corrective action plans.
Planning, Prioritization, Project Management:Set priorities for team members based on product management and organizational vision, collaborating across departments to ensure schedule adherence.
Develop and track project programs and engineering resource requirements, including design, installation, and commissioning tasks.
Schedule resources and tasks to align with overall project schedules and system deliveries, ensuring appropriate resource allocation.
Ensure timely delivery of all projects in line with the project plan, quality standards, and schedule.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
8+ years of relevant controls experience.
2+ years of leadership experience.
Ability to quickly learn and integrate new technologies.
Experience in an equipment manufacturing environment.
Willingness to travel up to 30%.
Proficiency in controls platforms such as B&R and Allen Bradley.
Familiarity with software tools such as Automation Studio, Studio 5000, and Ignition.
Knowledge of electrical design CAD tools is an added advantage.
Experience overseeing PLC programming and testing, as well as MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) development.
HMI Programming experience.
Experience overseeing a team of engineers.
