The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Administration has a full time vacancy for Auditor II, which has a 37.5 hour work week and is considered non-exempt.
SCOPE OF WORK:Performs audit review of documentation submitted to the Bureau of Road Toll for the issuance of fuel tax licenses. Verifies a variety of financial and accounting statements for completeness based on state and federal mandates.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Receives and verifies the accuracy of Road Toll license applications and tax returns to ensure documentation requirements are met based on compliance with state and federal regulations.
Processes and maintains accurate records of fuel tax accounts payable and receivable and prepares reconciliation documents for the daily deposit.
Audits applicable accounts receivable and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) tax returns, and records payments for data entry.
Maintains familiarity with all Road Toll laws and rules in order to answer inquiries from the general public regarding licensing and tax reporting requirements or processes to ensure compliance.
Prepares quarterly bulk mailings of IFTA tax return forms sent to licensees and provides follow up contact when delinquent or incomplete forms are reported.
Audits Road Toll related reporting issues and provides assistance to licensees to resolve credentialing discrepancies. Assists other Bureau members with resolving similar routine audit findings as appropriate.
Assists the Bureau with other related functions including but not limited to processing counter transactions, mailings, and phone coverage as needed.
Recommends changes in technical and administrative policies and recommends changes to work procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degree
3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree
4.5 Years additional relevant experience = Master's Degree
Education:High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience:Four years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or auditing work.
License/Certification:None required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:Considerable knowledge of the basic theories and principles of auditing. Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy. Ability to analyze and interpret and evaluate basic accounting problems and to recognize alternative solutions. Ability to learn the regulations relating to auditing practices in the state. Ability to learn the statutes regulating the agency to which assigned. Ability to make clear and concise written and oral reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, state officials and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
