  Job Description:

  Grant Thornton LLP has multiple openings for the position of Audit Senior Associate based out of Grant Thornton LLP's U.S. headquarters in Chicago, IL. The applicant may live anywhere in the U.S. as this is a roving position with regional travel up to 20% of the time. The Audit Senior Associate will be responsible for the following: examine, analyze and interpret accounting records to determine a client’s financial status and prepare financial reports concerning operating procedures; plan, coordinate and execute multiple, concurrent financial audit engagements in compliance with accounting standards; examine and analyze accounting records; ensure adherence to auditing processes and work with colleagues to identify and resolve issues faced during the auditing process; prepare detailed reports on audit findings; report to management about asset utilization and audit results, recommending changes in operations and financial activities; collect and analyze data to detect deficient controls, duplicated effort, extravagance, fraud, or non-compliance with laws, regulations, and management policies; supervise auditing of establishments including determining the scope of any required investigations; inspect account books and accounting systems for efficiency, effectiveness and use of accepted accounting procedures to record transactions; review and evaluate audit business transaction cycles including cash, treasury, capital expenditures, income and expenses; research and analyze financial statements and audit- and tax-related issues utilizing electronic databases and review-track financial information utilizing audit related software; conduct the review and evaluation of client business processes and identify business risks and internal control weaknesses; interact with client personnel to gain a comprehensive understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives; make recommendations to overcome audit-related problems and implement process improvements, advising on systems of recording costs and other financial and budgetary data; prepare financial documents, reports or budgets; advise clients on financial, business and operational matters; report information to managers or other personnel; and examine financial records.

  The Audit Senior Associate will supervise the work of up to five peers at the Senior Associate level or Associate level as it relates to a specific engagement. The role will not have the authority to hire/fire.

  Minimum Requirements:

  The position of Audit Senior Associate requires a bachelor’s degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related field. Employer will accept a bachelor’s equivalent based on a combination of education and experience as determined by a professional evaluation service, plus (2) years of experience in the job offered or in a public accounting role. Additionally, the qualified applicant must have: (1) experience planning, coordinating and executing multiple, concurrent client financial audit engagements in a public accounting firm in compliance with applicable U.S. or international accounting standards; (2) experience conducting the review and evaluation of external clients’ business processes and identifying business risks and internal control weaknesses; (3) experience reviewing and evaluating audit business transaction cycles including cash, treasury, capital expenditures, and other income and expenses for external clients; and (4) experience researching audit issues, utilizing electronic databases; and review-tracking financial information utilizing audit-related software.   Benefits for internship positions: Grant Thornton interns are eligible to participate in the firm’s medical, dental and vision insurance programs and the firm’s employee assistance program. Interns also receive a minimum of 72 hours of paid sick leave, and are paid for firm holidays that fall within their internship period.

  Grant Thornton employees may be eligible for a discretionary, annual bonus based on individual and firm performance, subject to the terms, conditions and eligibility criteria of the applicable bonus plan or program. Interns and seasonal employees are not eligible for bonus compensation.
