The Columbia Stem Cell Initiative (CSCI) at Columbia University in the City of New York is seeking candidates for an Associate Research Scientist position. The research appointment will be in the Department of Genetics & Development. The Associate Research Scientist, under general supervision of the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative (CSCI) Stem Cell Core director, carries out independently the daily activities of the core facility.
The Stem Cell Core team helps users take advantage of up-to-date resources in the stem cell field in a timely and cost-efficient way. We work on iPSC derivation, differentiation into various progenies and gene editing using CRISPR-Cas9. Please find more information on CSCI and the Stem Cell Core here:
Responsibilities:
Plan, manage and execute CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing projects in human pluripotent stem cells (iPSC/hESC).Hands-on supervision and training of users and members of the gene-editing team. Provide technical expertise, optimize and troubleshoot procedures and develop novel protocols. Perform differentiation of engineered iPSC into various progenies.Assist in the organization and teaching of training workshops for researchers interested in learning techniques relevant to iPSC derivation, culture, differentiation and gene editing. Performs laboratory maintenance and management, including maintaining and cleaning equipment, interfacing with vendors, ordering and keeping an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies, tracking core usage and invoicing participating laboratories.Assists in the preparation of progress reports, grant applications, and manuscripts relevant to the core's activities.Maintains accurate records.Some weekend flexibility will be required.
PhD in biology or related field.Strong background in cell and molecular biology and excellent expertise in gene-editing techniques in pluripotent stem cells.Previous experience with human pluripotent stem cells is required.Able to analyze and interpret data and communicate results effectively.Exceptional organizational and record keeping skills and excellent attention to detail are an essential component of this position.Ability to work proactively and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.Computer experience is necessary.Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran
