We are seeking an Associate Tool and Design Engineer to work at our Huntsville Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) which is our newly constructed inert manufacturing facility for fabricating and assembling advanced composite rocket motor hardware. Manufacturing Engineering team members specify, develop and transition manufacturing processes from development to production.
Activities to include tooling design, tooling procurement and fabrication, and conduct tooling functional checkout. Responsible for tooling design based on efficiency, ease and safety or operation, ease of maintenance and cost of fabrication. Interfaces with suppliers and manufacturing personnel to assure that tool design requirements and intent are met. Coordinate tooling functional checkout with manufacturing disciplines prior to releasing tooling to manufacturing operations.
Coordinate with tool design and manufacturing engineering and manufacturing technicians to investigate and resolve tooling problems and tooling design updates to address product ability and affordability initiatives.
Support the product development and production Integrated Product Teams with tooling design cost estimates for design and fabrication, schedules for fabrication, and overall status of assigned projects. Recommend changes to product design and manufacturing processes for simplification of tooling design and overall manufacturing processes.
Prepare presentations and present technical information for internal and external customers. Responsible for preparing tooling design reports to support engineering analysis, trade studies, and tooling design reviews.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must posses a strong mechanical aptitude
Experience with CAD software tools expected (CREO and NX strongly preferred)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required
Experience with metalworking and mechanics
