Simon & Schuster seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial nonfiction Associate Editor with the distinct task of scouting academic forums, in person, for new, authoritative authors to be published by either the S&S or Free Press imprints.
This Associate Editor will acquire new authors sometimes handing off to other inhouse editors and manage extensive regular travel as well as fulfilling standard editorial duties, including advice to potential unpublished authors, constructive comments on proposals and manuscripts, drafting various promotional and sales copy, and researching sales across the serious nonfiction market. They will liaise with departments across Simon & Schuster including contracts, production, art, marketing, and publicity. They will coordinate editorial/production schedules to ensure all deadlines are met.

has editorial experience in academic/university press publishing.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
