  JOB DESCRIPTION:

  Directs the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) component of the Winship Cancer Institute and for the Winship Center for Cancer Health Equity Research.

  Represents the program in various national and international fora.

  Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operations of COE and the Winship Center for Cancer Health Equity Research. Reports to Winship Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement.

  Collaborates with representatives from institutional, community, local/state/national government, and international agencies.

  Represents the program at state, national and international conferences.

  Conducts research, performs data collection, provides basic data analysis, develops new initiatives, writes publishable manuscripts or articles for dissemination throughout community, generates progress reports, collaborates with others within institution and external, and designs programs.

  May supervise staff and/or students or trainees.

  Performs other related duties as required.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  Bachelor's degree in field related to specific program as indicated and five years program related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

  Master's degree preferred.

  Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

  Effective writing, analytical, presentation, and collaboration skills.

  Knowledge of and experience with research methods and study implementation.

  May have research experience in clinical, translational, and/or population sciences.

  Self-starter and ability to function independently and make decisions under general supervision. Commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and knowledgeable about factors contributing to cancer disparities.

  Able to work and collaborate easily with diverse populations and partners.

  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  Prior experience working with community partners or in a community setting. Prior experience with NCI cancer centers.

  Is familiar with guidelines from National Cancer Institute (NCI) for NCI-designated cancer centers and NCI’s evaluation criteria for COE components.

  SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Builds and maintains partnerships with community organizations, state departments of public health, health care systems, minority-serving institutions, and other agencies throughout Georgia, regionally, and nationally.

  Coordinates the Community Advisory Board (CAB) that provides regular input to the Winship Cancer Institute. Recruits and trains new Community Advisory Board and internal Scientific Advisory Committee for Winship Center for Cancer Health Equity Research.

  Collaborates with research programs and their COE liaisons, patient advisory council, bi-directional communication community research board, and state cancer control consortia.

  Takes leadership role in planning and executing annual statewide cancer summit and other institutional and state-level meetings.

  Develops pilot grant requests for applications related to cancer health equity and community-based disparities.

  Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in rationale, research and methods of collection and analysis of data sets for other investigators involving a variety of research projects funded by NIH and other agencies.

  Provides expertise in data related to statewide cancer disparities and works with investigators to develop community input, bi-directional communication, or formal community boards to advise other research studies.

  Conducts extensive literature searches and analyzes publicly available data, summarizes and disseminates findings and application to research and catchment area (state of Georgia) priorities. Monitors and regularly evaluates progress in reaching goals identified through strategic planning process.

  Reviews and assigns requests for services received by COE from researchers, clinicians, students, and community members.

  Helps generate programmatic and research project budgets. Reviews budgetary expenses and works closely with Finance to maintain budgetary compliance.

  Facilitates processing of programmatic expenses.

  NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
