New Position to Begin 07/01/2024
Details
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah ( https://www.mech.utah.edu/ ) invites applications for a career-line faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor (Lecturer) rank with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. With support from the Utah legislature and a desire to meet local, national and international industry needs, the Department of Mechanical Engineering is rapidly growing its Engineering Management and Systems Engineering programs. We recently added four new faculty lines in this area. As a result, we are looking for candidates with exceptional teaching ability in all areas of engineering management and leadership.
Candidates will teach up to three graduate core or elective courses in engineering management or systems engineering every fall and spring semester. Summer funding may be available to teach an additional course during summer semesters. These classes will be taught both in person and online to support the rapidly growing number of students enrolling in the department’s graduate online programs. The exact classes assigned will be dependent upon the candidate’s strengths, but are anticipated to include topics such as engineering management, engineering leadership, entrepreneurship, statistics, analytics, operations research, engineering economy, decisions and games, or other topics in the engineering management and systems engineering fields.
Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in a related field preferably with leadership and management experience. Candidates with a track record of high-quality teaching are especially encouraged to apply. We prefer an effective liaison with industry and external stakeholders to establish partnerships, promote academic programs, and develop course projects. The position does not carry a research expectation, but all faculty are encouraged to collaboratively contribute to the department’s research goals.
Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2023. Applications must be submitted electronically and should include: (1) a cover letter highlighting the applicant’s qualifications and specifying which courses the applicant is interested in teaching, (2) current curriculum vitae, (3) teaching statement, and (4) contact information for a minimum of three references.
For application submission questions, please contact department manager Tiffany Benson ( [email protected] )
