TITLE OF POSITION: Assistant Teacher Certified On-Call Substitute
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Site Education Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY OF WHAT THE POSITION DOESThis position is not scheduled regular hours; this position is an On-CallSubstitute and days and hours will vary. This position works as a part of ateam to assist in activities in the areas of the classroom, kitchen and/orto serve as a disabilities aide as needed. This position works with typicallydeveloping children, children acquiring more than one language and childrenwith disabilities. The position may be reassigned to variousclassrooms/centers as deemed necessary for program operations. This positionmay receive content area technical support and training from the staff personresponsible for center supervision, teacher, kitchen staff and/orprogram managers/specialist. In addition to these duties, this positionrequires an active and current Colorado Shines PDIS Certificate Level II inorder to be Assistant Teacher Certified.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES
Certified Assistant Teacher1. Direct supervision of the children in the classroom setting is requiredat all times. At no time when children are present should any classroomteaching staff be in the office taking a break, making phone calls,checking emails or any other situation that may arise. Supervision of childrenis the priority.2. Supports social and emotional development and provides positive guidanceand discipline.3. Assists the Teacher in all classroom activities and outdoor activities.4. Helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children to encourage goodnutrition and proper social skills and to comply with the Family Style HeadStart requirement.5. Maintain sanitary hand-washing practices and encourage/assist thechildren to do so as well.6. Assist in preparing the sanitizing and disinfecting bleach solution perthe Health & Sanitation rules & regulations daily.7. Helps keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.8. Responsible for the direct supervision of all children during alltransitions to include transitioning to outdoor time and in the classroom.9. Identifies (name/face-to list), Counts and Records the number ofchildren present on the Sign-in Sheets every 30 minutes; before transitionsand after transitions.10. Records and reports children's incidents, injuries and/or illnesses.
Classroom Aide1. Maintain sanitary hand-washing practices and encourage/assist thechildren to do so as well.2. Helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children (whenpossible) to encourage good nutrition and social skills.3. Helps keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.4. Assists the teacher in any aspect of the program as the need arises(e.g., at Family Nights, copying newsletters, cutting out classroommaterials, making phone calls, etc.).5. Serves as a temporary substitute in the periodic absence of the assistantteacher or teacher.
Janitorial Aide Services1. Serves as janitor in the absence of the regular custodian or janitor on aperiodic basis.2. Does light yard work or snow removal.
Disabilities Aide1. Works with children with disabilities when assigned.2. Supports the work of the classroom staff and managers, specialistsand/or mental health consultant in carrying out individual plans forchildren with special needs.3. With direction from professional staff, supports IEP goals.
EXAMPLES OF GENERAL JOB DUTIES1. Understands, generates and documents in-kind and other allowable costsapplied toward the non- federal share requirements.2. Attends all workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the immediatesupervisor and/or requested by the Executive Director.3. Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities.4. Responsible for unders anding Head Start Performance Standards, HeadStart Act and local child care licensing regulations.5. Expected to be knowledgeable of the regulations associated withprevention of occupational disease and injury, including the exercise ofuniversal precautions and the prevention of contamination.6. Positively promotes Head Start in the community.7. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start children,families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.8. Becomes thoroughly familiar with CEEN Head Start Employee Handbook:Human Resources Policies and Procedures, CEEN Head Start Operations Manualand all other CEEN HS handbooks, manuals and resources and adheres to them.9. PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
