Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) of Biology
The Department of Biology at Southern Utah University invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level to begin in Fall of 2024.
We seek individuals with a strong commitment to undergraduate education that can teach in a variety of core undergraduate Biology courses. Teaching assignments will depend on the experience and qualifications of the successful applicant and may include microbiology, cell biology, biology education, or anatomy/physiology courses, along with associated laboratory courses. Multiple sections of these courses are taught by different faculty members in a collaborative and supportive environment. Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds or research interests that complement current strengths in the department and who have the potential to establish an active undergraduate research program that results in presentations and publications. Professional service on departmental and university committees is also required.

Salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Duties and Responsibilities:
• Teach lecture and lab courses such as microbiology, cell biology, biology education, or anatomy/physiology courses, along with associated laboratory courses. Multiple sections of these courses are taught by different faculty members in a collaborative and supportive environment under a faculty course coordinator. Additional teaching assignments may be made based on department need.
• Develop an active research program that involves undergraduates and provides opportunities for students to engage in every stage of the research process, from developing ideas to presenting/publishing results. Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds or research interests that complement current strengths in the department.
• Professional service on departmental and university committees is also required.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:
• A terminal degree (Ph.D., http://D.Sc., etc.) in Biology or related field is required. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by start date.
Preferred qualifications:
• Prior undergraduate teaching experience.
• Experience using evidence-based teaching and assessment techniques.
• Demonstrated experience and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate research.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with colleagues in an undergraduate academic setting.
