Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include teaching private voice to undergraduate students; recruiting and retaining excellent students; and teaching related courses in vocal pedagogy or other areas of interest. Additional duties maybe assigned commensurate with the candidate’s expertise and the department’s curricular, service, and community outreach needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for significant contributions to the field through research and creative activity. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to developing a studio of undergraduates, including a multicultural population of first-generation students within the context of an urban research university.
Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Candidates must hold a terminal degree in music with an emphasis in vocal performance or related field ( ABD considered; terminal degree must be conferred by the contract start date) and have demonstrated success in recruiting and teaching at the college level. Preference will be given to soprano/mezzo-soprano/alto or contralto candidates who possess a record of effective voice studio teaching, significant scholarly/creative contributions, an interest in a broad representation of vocal literature through performance, effective communication skills, a record of performance activity in professional music venues and organizations, and demonstration of ancillary benefits to the department in cross-curricular interests, community engagement, or other skills. Candidates who have experience and pedagogy expertise in classical and contemporary styles are especially desirable.
