  Duties and Responsibilities

  This is a 9-month tenure-accruing position that will be 60% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and 40% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) available in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Tenure will accrue in the Department of FYCS. Duties will include (1) teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses in nonprofit organizational leadership and management; (2) actively participating in graduate and undergraduate education; (3) engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising; (4) planning and conducting a high quality, productive research program with an emphasis on examining issues and emerging trends in the third sector, including philanthropy, board governance, or social entrepreneurship which results in the publication of scholarly journal articles and creative works; (5) seeking contract and grant funding to support the aforementioned research and educational programs; and (6) contributing to the Department's overall goals in scholarship and research.

  The successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for the teaching program, supervising undergraduate and graduate research and creative work, publishing teaching-related scholarship, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. Faculty are encouraged to support and participate in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Honors Program, distance education, and international education.

  Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching, and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

  Background Information:

  The Department of Family, Youth, and Community Sciences (FYCS) (https://fycs.ifas.ufl.edu/) is a unit in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida. The Department employs 29 faculty members, a 3-person advising team, and three administrative staff members. The Department is located at the Gainesville campus.The interdisciplinary FYCS program is an undergraduate major with an enrollment of over 200 students. The graduate program offers in-person and online master's degrees as well as a PhD in Youth Development and Family Sciences that attracts both UF graduates and students from other institutions while supporting the University's commitment to increasing graduate enrollment and maintaining quality undergraduate education. The Department is home to an undergraduate Nonprofit Organizational Leadership Minor; an Online Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership; training grants and courses on nongovernmental organizational leadership hosted internationally in locations such as Belize, Greece, Ireland, India, South Korea, and Spain; and nonprofit research laboratories. The undergraduate practicum and graduate capstone programs collaborate with local nonprofits to connect students with the Gainesville community.

  The unit's sponsored research and Extension activities have generated in excess of $24 million over the past year. The Department's mission is to enhance lifelong learning and the personal, social, economic, and environmental well-being and resilience of diverse individuals, families, and communities through state-of-the-art teaching, research, and Extension programs. The Department encompasses programs in community development/nonprofit leadership, prevention science, youth and family development, human nutrition and health, food safety, housing, and consumer economics and resource management. The Department engages in collaborative working relationships with Florida A&M University, Florida State University, and other public and private universities in the US and other countries.

The School of Natural Resources and Environment is an interdisciplinary unit housed in IFAS and managed by several colleges on campus. UF/IFAS employs nearly 4,500 people, which includes approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1,400 permanent support personnel located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS, one of the nation's largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations, is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Dean for Extension, and the Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. UF/IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

  Minimum Requirements:

  A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Nonprofit Management, Philanthropy, Public Administration, Leadership Development, Social Entrepreneurship, Social/Health Services Administration, Community Development, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should possess demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication and interpersonal relationships. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.   Preferred Qualifications:

  The demonstration of extramural funding procurement is preferred. Evidence of excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate classes and a track record of research achievement, including a current research plan in areas relevant to the intersection of nonprofits and youth and/or families, is preferred. Work experience in the nonprofit sector, nationally or internationally, and affiliation with appropriate professional associations is desirable.
