Our Features team is the heartbeat of The Sun, helping shape the tone and personality of journalism’s most famous brand. It oversees everything from commentary to campaigns, real life to really funny, investigations to hard-hitting interviews and everything in between.
Your Role: You will work as part of a busy Features desk responsible for managing a team of staff writers and freelancers. You will commission and edit original and engaging features for all our platforms, with a particular focus on digital storytelling.
This is an ideas-driven role and the successful candidate will instinctively know what features will work well online, in print and across all The Sun's platforms - and have the skills to ensure they have the biggest impact.
Experience of both print and digital publishing is preferred. Digital experience is crucial.
Day to day you will:
Generate compelling and agenda-setting feature ideas and interviews suitable for digital audiences, with a focus on traffic-driving exclusives and original content
Present ideas in digital and print conferences to editors
Edit online stories to a high standard, liaising with legal, graphic designers and video to ensure we are producing multimedia content across all platforms
Commission content from writers and work to ensure good value on payments
Play a key role in suggesting and leading areas of future development, especially the digital presentation of content and content formats
Help to educate and enthuse the team about digital publishing
Develop ideas for print and lead the features print operation on a regular basis
Take responsibility for or assisting with campaigns as required
Liaise with the marketing and commercial teams on campaigns and content
Work with the audience team to ensure the optimum performance of content
Take on ad-hoc responsibilities as and when required to ensure the success of the team
What we’re looking for from you:
Experience of managing a team.
Strong digital experience across sections including news, showbiz, sport and lifestyle
Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard.
Pro-active and displays a willingness to take on any task.
Positive attitude and good team player.
Attention to detail, combined with an appreciation of the bigger picture
Adaptability – able to adapt style dependent on the story
Takes initiative in order to achieve desired results.
Self-starter, organised and a good problem-solver, able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
The ability to think on your feet and respond to events as they happen
Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
