PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
A highly qualified attorney, preferably with regulatory experience, to handle complex legal matters and projects on behalf of the Company.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Performs as a specialist in regulatory and administrative law, including utility ratemaking proceedings, provides technical and expert legal services to BGE and has strong comprehension of the electric and natural gas utility businesses.
Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and oversees complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters that may have a major bearing on conducting the Company’s business; evaluates both legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly.
Interprets and applies organization policy according to law.
Represents BGE in agency proceedings and/or relevant litigation, including before the Maryland Public Service Commission, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and federal and state courts of law.
Prepare and manage budgets for all matters involving outside counsel and manage outside counsel engagement.
Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff.
Projects / duties as assigned.

Supports more senior attorneys in the ongoing management of relationships and matters on behalf of BGE, including with internal clients, outside counsel, external stakeholders and state and federal regulators.
Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business context.
Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs or actions.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in Maryland.
At least 5-8 years of relevant professional experience.
Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures relevant to the operation and success of a utility regulatory practice.
Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and an ongoing knowledge of federal or state law, especially regulatory, administrative, and litigation law.
Must have the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines, including at times with little or no supervision.
Superior writing skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience appearing before state and/or federal regulators.
Experience working on or managing utility rate cases.
Knowledge of various utility ratemaking structures.
Experience providing direct counsel to clients.
Experience providing legal counsel to a variety of company officials with different levels of experience and responsibility, from individual contributors to senior/executive level personnel.
