Responsibilities Assist the Fitness Manager in the overall operation and control of the area recreational programs, strength and conditioning programs, HITT, health promotion, fitness, group exercise programs, property equipment control, special events and day-to-day operations of the facilities and programs. May be required to teach group exercise classes, health and fitness classes, work races and represent Semper Fit at special events. In the absence of the Manager, acts as the MCCS area liaison/representative with the area command, sharing information about all of the facilities in that area. Assist in the layout and preparation of facilities, athletic fields, courts and tracks. Assist the Fitness Manager in the purchase, upkeep and maintenance of equipment registered on Consolidated Memorandum Receipts, and will make regular and detailed checks for sanitation, cleanliness and safety of all areas. Assist in the proper training of staff on all aspects of the facilities. Responsible for gear issue and receipt of gear check-in. May receive and register payment for services using a cash register. Deals with staff and patrons to resolve complaints and grievances. Assist in the planning and scheduling of staff work assignments to accommodate weekends, evenings and holidays, as well as employee performance appraisals and other personnel actions. This position requires flexibility for working all shifts and multiple facilities. Instructs patrons in the proper use of all equipment for training and self-monitored progress by preparing written instruction and procedures for the performance of work, use of equipment, safety and well-being of all involved. May train/lead other employees in various recreation/physical fitness-related positions. Registers students, collects fees, maintains attendance and appropriate accounting records. Ensure all safety measures are observed. Responsible for care of equipment and security of facilities. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Requirements Conditions of Employment See Duties and Qualifications EVALUATIONS: Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of three years experience that demonstrates a working knowledge of the assigned program. A degree from an accredited college/university in a related field may be substituted for two years' experience. Must currently have or obtain within six months a group exercise certification. This certification must be kept current throughout employment. Must have a valid CA driver's license. Must be certified in CPR within 6 months of employment.
