Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 20 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1* of the Civil Service Law.*Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam is required.ORMinimum Qualifications: To be considered for this vacancy, all interested candidates must complete the appropriate online exam by the applications due date of this posting. A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology as listed below;Or 2. Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience as listed below.Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Forest Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.Qualifying experience: One year of full-time experience related to geotechnical engineering practices.Successful completion of a two-year traineeship and proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam leads to an appointment as an Assistant Engineer, SG-20.
Duties Description Duties include but are not limited to:• Supervise and inspect building construction projects of moderate size and complexity. • Coordinate the operations of contractors and ensure conformity of work to contract estimates, specifications, standards, and construction practices.• Assist higher level staff on larger projects.• Recommend and prepare contract change orders.• May supervise consultant work.• Perform other duties as assigned.• Some travel required.
