  Description of Department:

  The Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) advocates for full accessibility and inclusion for students with disabilities within the SUNY Oswego community. OAR offers a range of services and resources to help students succeed in college and empower them to maximize their abilities to thrive in today's global community. Situated within the Division of Student Affairs (DSA), OAR accomplishes its work in partnership with departments and committees across all of the University's divisions to maintain compliance and accessibility and is a resource for staff, faculty and students in the area of disability and ADA compliance.

  Reporting to the Director of Accessibility Resources, the Assistant Director of Accessibility Resources supports a comprehensive program to support students with disabilities and ensure that they receive the services needed to facilitate success and well-being at SUNY Oswego. This position is responsible to maintain a caseload of students, and to review their disability-related documentation and potential barriers to make accommodation determinations on their behalf. In addition, this position coordinates the implementation and evaluation of assistive technology materials and accessible technology to students with disabilities as well as larger college technological initiatives. The position is responsible for provision of alternative format media for students with disabilities and for training and supporting students in the use of assistive technology.

  This position works collaboratively with campus partners, faculty, staff and students to provide a culture of inclusion and equal opportunity for students with disabilities aligned with the vision and mission of the University and the Division of Student Affairs.

  Compensation: Minimum salary $52,000 (SL-2 salary range (https://www.suny.edu/hr/compensation/salary/) ) commensurate with experience plus full New York State benefits package.

  Description of Responsibilities:

  Engage in an interactive process with students to evaluate requests for disability-related academic, physical, and technological accommodations at the University.

  Utilize the Accessible Information Management (AIM) platform to facilitate student onboarding, accommodation requests and reviews, communications, proctored exam matters and more.

  Ensure the effective implementation of accommodations and work directly with students to determine appropriate services and programs.

  Via AIM, document and maintain appropriate electronic records of verbal and written communications with students, staff, faculty, and others as it pertains to students with disabilities.

  Maintain a caseload of registered students and provide follow-up as needed to facilitate implementation of accommodations and provide support and advising.

  Refer students to other campus resources using a warm handoff method.

  Provide recommendations to the Director on new and emerging services and technologies.

  Partner with Campus Technology Services (CTS) to troubleshoot computer software and hardware problems relevant to the production of alternate media and assistive technology.

  Coordinate use of various hardware and software related to job duties, including adaptive/assistive technology, voice activation, FM loop, speech synthesis, iPad technology, in addition to software and other resources needed to convert print material to alternative formats.

  Coordinate adaptive testing and serve as lead consultant for accommodated testing for the testing center.

  Evaluate students' assistive technology needs and recommend cost-effective resources.

  Coordinate conversion of Office of Accessibility Resources records and documents into effective alternative format media and coordinates process of students requesting alternate-format texts.

  Assume primary responsibility within the department for teaching students how to use the most up-to-date assistive technology. For example, demonstrate and train students on assistive technologies: SmartPen, Kurzweil, Otter.ai, Microsoft Dictation, etc.

  Track and maintain adaptive equipment inventory utilizing AIM: charging, clearing data, troubleshooting, etc.

  Research and stay abreast of current and emerging technologies in the alternate media and assistive technology field.

  Serve as a member of the University's Accessibility Workgroup to support the development of educational materials and present workshops on assistive technologies and accessible formats as appropriate.

  Participate in outreach to new and prospective students and families regarding the processes and procedures of Accessibility Resources.

  Serve as a member of the Office of Accessibility Resources team, participating in department strategic planning, meetings, programming, outreach and advising.

  Support SUNY Oswego's commitment to creating an inclusive community; embracing a community free of bias and inequality.

  Support diversity and inclusion efforts on campus through committee membership, outreach, and policy development.

  Participate in professional development and growth opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge of higher education law, state and federal law, student development and student learning research, theory and practice that best serve the needs of students.

  Other duties as assigned required to support and actualize the mission of OAR and the Division of Student Affairs.

  Job Requirements:

  Required Qualifications:

  Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation counseling, human services, higher education administration, counseling, college student personnel or a related field

  Minimum of 2 years of experience working with people with disabilities in student affairs, accessibility resources, disability services, human services, social work, or related field

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Master's degree in higher education administration, rehabilitation counseling, counseling, college student personnel or a related field

  Familiarity with strategies and experience working with people with disabilities and facilitating accommodations in complex, multi-level environments

  Clear knowledge and understanding of the application of Section 504 and the ADA in the higher education context, and ability to recognize legal risk associated with disability and accommodation issues

  Ability to effectively communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds

  Knowledge of academic, physical, and technological accommodations for people with disabilities accommodations in an academic environment

  Ability to interpret medical, psychological, neuropsychological, and educational documentation

  Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, as well as other federal, state, and local knowledge base of accessibility compliance as relates to assistive technological needs that will enhance student access

  Experience expanding the use of software and emerging assistive technologies to enhance student access and success

  Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and re-prioritize; ability to successfully adapt to rapid change; ability to work collaboratively and to foster effective relationships

  Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds
