This position will serve as an Assistant County Maintenance Engineer in the Forsyth County Maintenance Department. This position will report to the County Maintenance Engineer in order to ensure that we are performing the correct maintenance and/or system preservation activities on routes in Forsyth County in an efficient manner and within specifications, policies, procedures and regulations. This position will help ensure that all environmental issues, permits, etc. are followed and documented in accordance with policies and regulations. This position will serve as a liaison between the County Maintenance Engineer and Engineering Technicians by providing technical expertise on various issues. This position will assist with various aspects of the safety program, administering contracts and the storm water pollution prevention program. This position will also assist in planning force account work involving permitting issues, performing emergency storm assessments, pavement surveys and preparing documentation using various computer software programs. This position is needed to assist the County Maintenance Engineer in ensuring the successful delivery of our work plan, ensuring prompt responses to maintenance needs, and in ensuring the environmental and safety programs are closely monitored. This position will also be utilized to train and better prepare future candidates for the role of County Maintenance Engineer within Division Nine. POS # 60020842
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering
Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems
Experience maintaining records and reports, and writing memos and emails that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts
Knowledge of engineering standards, policies and procedures related to transportation
Additional Expectations:
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. This position will be responsible for transporting inmates for work detail. An inmate card approved by the NC Department of Public Safety must be issued to NCDOT employees to transport inmates. In order to obtain an inmate card applicants must undergo a criminal history check, complete necessary training and orientation, and be at least 21 years of age. Safety toe shoes are required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
