Description
Under general direction, is responsible to assist with the management of a competitive USA RUGBY and National Collegiate Rugby athletic programs; assists with conditioning, practices, recruiting, travel arrangements, and student managers for the men’s and women’s rugby programs.
Examples of Duties
In conjunction with the Head Coaches, plans and executes successful programs that would include duties such as: conducting regular team practice sessions; coaching the student athletes, evaluating athletes performance in practice and competition; monitoring the conditioning and training of student athletes, advises and counsels student athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and appearance. 60%
Arranges recruiting functions including off- and on-campus visits, evaluations and contacts, and documents all activities as required per USA RUGBY and National Collegiate Rugby rules.

Work with Head Coaches in coordination of team academics including study halls, academic and team meetings.

Engages in all aspects of opponent scouting including breaking down film into manageable clips for student-athletes to view.

Schedules and assist the supervision of individual and group student-athlete workouts.
Assists with fundraising on behalf of the team and university.

Supplemental Functions:
In the absence of the Head Coach, represents the programs during practices and games.
Ensures that necessary athletic equipment is available and in proper condition for scheduled practices and competition and makes recommendation for repairs or replacement, as necessary.
Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics programs, to include adhering to all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, Rugby East Conference, USA RUGBY and National Collegiate Rugby
Responsible to monitor the physical, emotional and social welfare of student-athletes and to ensure the establishment of a safe environment while at the University and traveling. Assist in monitoring academic achievement of team members by regular communication with all those that support Academics.
Help coordinate and post material for team social media sites.

Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Prior coaching experience or a minimum of 1-3 years working in a campus or athletic environment or as a collegiate athlete preferably at a USA Rugby or National Collegiate Rugby recognized program and collegiate level..
Certification and/or Licensure
USA Level 200 Certification or willingness to get certified when next opportunity is offered.
CPR, First Aid and AED Certification or willingness to do so.
Valid Drivers License

Must possess the ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures and have knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program. Remains current on relevant college athletics regulations and guidelines
Ability to successfully recruit and retain student athletes. Makes public appearances on behalf of the University as well as create substantial support for program through ambitious marketing and community service efforts.
Excellent writing skills and the demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans. Good organizational, oral and recruiting skills are needed.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and have the self-motivation and the ability to stay current with emerging technologies.
Ability to establish and nurture effective working relationships with associates, colleagues, students and members of the University staff. Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers while fostering positive working relationships.
Knowledge of USA Rugby and National Collegiate Rugby rules and regulations.
