The Astronomy Department at the University of Illinois atUrbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, Assistant,Associate, or Full Professor faculty position (tenure line) beginning assoon as August 16, 2024. The area of scientific focus is open to allareas of astronomy/astrophysics/cosmology. The department is involved inseveral major astrophysical surveys, and has vibrant research programsthat span cosmology, compact objects, galaxies, stars, planets,computational and data-intensive astronomy. We are open to diversifyingthese research areas. The Astronomy Department has strong ties to the highly-rankeddepartments of Physics and Chemistry, the College of Engineering, andthe National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Our campussupports crosscutting astrophysics research through the Center forAstroPhysical Surveys (CAPS) that advances astrophysical survey scienceefforts across campus, and the Illinois Center for Advanced Studies ofthe Universe (ICASU) that supports interdisciplinary inquiry infundamental physics.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or aclosely related field. You will teach a talented, diverse population ofundergraduate and graduate students, and you will develop and conduct anactive research program. Salary is competitive and commensurate withqualifications.
