NewGround, a world-class design and build firm headquartered in St. Louis and with offices across North America, is looking for an experienced Architectural Designer II based in our Chicago studio.
The Architectural Designer II (Project Architect if licensed) will lead the project team in the development and delivery of a successful project. Working with the design director, project managers, and studio team, the Architectural Specialist II will be a critical part of the development of projects, taking them from concept to reality. This person will provide exemplary communication with ownership, stakeholders, NewGround internal directors and managers, and external consultants. This individual will be able to guide the team in the creation of technical drawings and details that reinforce the quality and design goals on the project. The Architectural Designer II will successfully navigate the project budget, program, design intent, context, jurisdiction requirements, and timelines to provide an exemplary product.
GENERAL SKILLS
Strong organization
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Well versed in building and accessibility codes Experience in all phases of project development
Experience with the independent production of construction documents for commercial projects
SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Revit and Sketchup
Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience with Procore or comparable software
Experience with Speclink or comparable software
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the team in development of details, technical drawings, and construction documents.
Apply technical knowledge to aid in the development of the project design.
Assess problems and create solutions consistent with design intent.
Coordinate with local jurisdictions on project development
Assist in the review of shop drawings as required.
Assist in construction administration of projects.
Make site visits as required (minimal travel)
Coordinate external project consultants.
Assist in the development of specifications.
Be knowledgeable on application of building regulations to projects
Perform all other related work, as assigned or as apparent
Assist the team in mentoring junior staff.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITES
5 - 7 years of professional experience required
Architectural License preferred
NCARB certification preferred
LEED AP credential preferred
