  Position Overview

  Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is actively seeking a dynamic, proactive Architect in our growing Design-Build Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure, Facilities and Buildings (IF+B) department which includes architectural, structural, geotechnical, civil, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, electrical and is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure related buildings projects.

  The successful candidate will help further the technical integrity of the infrastructure facilities and transit design group in the eastern United States and support design efforts in North America.   District Overview

  Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-focused architects and engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company.   Location

  This position is based out of the midtown, NYC or Woodcliff Lake, NJ offices.

  Responsibilities

  The Architect will work within our highly successful regional team of architects and facility design professionals to deliver quality projects for a diverse range of public and private-sector clients. These projects will include the design of transit facilities and stations, infrastructure support facilities, bridge structures and supporting aviation infrastructure. The Architect will work closely with the Infrastructure Facilities Lead in planning and implementing all work processes. The successful candidate will implement QA/QC procedures and support a culture of quality among the team and practice. In their duties, they will develop and present technical viewpoints on projects and ensure KIE systems are used to deliver the design in a standardized manner. The successful candidate will ensure that a technical solution is consistent with the clients’ program and design is properly developed and produced.

  Candidates’ daily responsibilities will likely involve aspects of architectural project delivery, such as:

  • Supporting design implementation

  • Assisting with building Code analyses

  • Preparing presentation materials, including renderings, diagrams, project information sheets

  • Preparing Construction Documents, including plans, sections and details

  • Assisting with project management

  • Assisting with quantity takeoffs for cost estimating purposes

  • Assisting with project closeout processes

  • Contributing to design submittal comment resolution

  • Attending task force meetings, compiling meeting minutes

  • Attending limited client meetings

  • Learning and reviewing Kiewit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Assisting with document control processes, learning document control SOPs

  • Assisting with lessons learned documentation

  • Assisting with creation of standard details and unit standards

  • Providing updates to staff managers

  More advanced candidates may also be responsible for the following:

  • Assisting with specification compiling

  • Assisting with QC checks, making corrections based on QC check comments

  • Coordinating with other disciplines on projects

  • Acting as an assigned peer to entry-level staff

  • Conducting over-the-shoulder Technical Risk Assessments (TRAs) to support a Get Work project

  • Providing input for project controls reporting

  Qualifications

  • Architectural designer with 2+ years of experience designing and leading major infrastructure facilities and/or architecture projects in the eastern US and nationally

  • Ability to proactively produce construction documents for major infrastructure facility projects including effectively communicating the issues to the project team leaders and assisting with compliance of QC program

  • Verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write technical memos and papers, present technical topics and respond to requests and needs from other technical practices within Kiewit

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, used for network building, career development, and coordination of personnel resources as required by project needs

  • Highly proficient in the use of BIM and CAD platforms, including Autodesk Revit, and Sketchup and/or Rhino, and familiarity with related tools and processes

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Project Management and Scheduling software

  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills  

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively working toward architectural licensure (RA) and/or sustainability accreditation (LEED, Envision, WEDG)

  • Experience preparing and documenting required Code compliance and material and product research

  • Prior experience with architecture in the construction of transportation facilities

  • Experience with Design-Build and Progressive Design-Build project delivery methods

  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design. LEED, WEDG and / or Envision professionals highly desired

  • Knowledge of visualization tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, 3-D Studio Max, Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshopper) and processes a plus

  Base Compensation: $72,000 - $100,000

  (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
