Position PurposeThe IT Operations Senior Application Support Specialist III, a member of the Production Support Team, who manages day to day maintenance of custom and off the shelf web applications. This includes triaging reported production issues, software upgrades, and managing assigned development sprints. The Senior Application Specialist is at the core of ASTM service delivery model. The resource will provide advanced technical support, total ownership of project which will include budget, plan and execution. They will also play a role in the handling of escalated requests and global issues. Sr. Specialists may also be asked to work directly with CS management on customer escalations or various department project initiatives.
Organization Role* This is senior-level IT position reporting to the IT Operations Application Support Manager* The position functions partially as individual contributor, whereas most assignments are team related.* It has some supervisory responsibilities by leading a small team to provide work direction to fellow ASTM colleagues and external vendors for assigned activities.
Responsibilities* Manages difficult customer situations that require advanced knowledge of ASTM products, internal systems, and customer facing applications.* Uses proven successful techniques to manage workload diligently staying ahead of commitment dates and in line with established service level standard.* Monitors production issues reported via the Help Desk or internal channels and triages them appropriately to resolution* Acts as a mentor to new hires and knowledge resource to teammates* Identifies production issue trends and elevates appropriately through management escalation path* Acts as a subject matter expert across multiple product or functional themes* Identifies and manages software changes needed as result of database, server, or technology/tool upgrades* Works with end users to determine needs (data, screens, processes, reports) and develop scope for enhancements.* Effectively communicate clients' change requests by writing functional design documents, communicating to developers and managing effort from Development, QA, Staging to Production.* Researches and documents existing workflows and systems and makes recommendations where improvements could be made.* Develops an understanding of how solutions will impact present and future business needs.* Responsible for drafting detailed specifications that reflects the user's needs. These specifications may be used internally or given to external vendors or consultants.* Holds and provides technical support at regular meetings with department managers and business unit personnel to communicate the status of ongoing development work.* Tests and reviews new systems or revisions prior to implementation and develops user training and procedures.* Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.* Consults and acts as a subject matter expert to management and key stakeholders on identified process improvements that impact efficiency, departmental capabili ies and/or return on investment.* On-call for break/fix outside of standard business hours.
Minimum Requirements* Bachelor's degree (in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other related field) andor 5 years of professional experience in information technology.* Knowledge of information technology concepts including hardware and software, application hosting, systems architectures, and internet protocols.* Experience working with and maintaining custom built web applications.* Experience testing and troubleshooting web-based applications.* Excellent communication skills (oral, written, interpersonal, listening) with ability to prepare and deliver presentations to both technical and managerial positions.* Familiarity with writing, reading and running basic scripts and queries in SQL* Experience and understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle.* Knowledge of automated deployments with industry standard tooling (Azure DEVOPS, Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, etc.)* Works independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
Preferred Qualifications & Competencies* Experience working with applications hosted both in an On-premises and Cloud infrastructure* Knowledge of project planning, including cost/benefit analysis and resource allocation.* Ability to get development sprints finished on time and on budget.* Agile experience preferred* Experience using issue tracking and collaboration software like Jira and Confluence.* Experience and expertise using help desk applications like Zendesk, and Jira Service Desk.* Familiarity with DevOps principles and practices* Preferred experience with web apps using Microsoft .NET framework.
