Apply for Job Job ID359978 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R1 Employee ClassCivil Service Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job About the Job Job Duties/Responsibilities: 70% Animal Care and Use -Maintain and refine behavioral paradigms so that they support ongoing projects by collecting behavioral and cognitive data -Identify animal health and welfare issues as they arise, and prepare mitigatory action -Continuously progress animal methodology through enrichment, infrastructure improvements, diet modifications, handling technique in a data driven way -Provide routine daily care to on/off study animals -Support researchers by meeting and maintaining a regular schedule to deliver logistical support around the use of NHP in a research setting. -Administer therapeutics/supplements by veterinarian order as required 20% Documentation and Compliance -Assist with preparation for inspections from supervisory bodies -Maintain accurate records -Liaise with Research Animal Resources (RAR) to ensure timely and attentive colony care 10% Training -Train incoming volunteers and undergraduates to ensure best practice animal handling. Qualifications All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Required Qualifications: -BA/BS in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, animal/veterinary science, or similar or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years. -Familiarity/experience with animal models of research -Has, or willing to seek AALAS accreditation (ALAT/LAT) -Ability to form strong working relationships with various intra and extramural stakeholders -Academic coursework in anatomy, physiology, primatology or similar Preferred Qualifications: -Familiarity with the pathology and treatment of Parkinson's disease -Hands-on experience training animals for a given purpose, or coursework in behavioral theory/behaviorism -Experience collecting electro/neurophysiological data from an animal population About the Department The Neuromodulation Research Center (NMRC) seeks a qualified and compassionate animal core researcher to join its interdisciplinary team working in the University of Minnesota Department of Neurology. This position will support the NMRC's ongoing research in deep brain stimulation (DBS) to provide therapeutic relief for those suffering with movement disorders: chiefly, Parkinson's disease. The successful candidate will enforce, refine, and devise welfare and behavioral paradigms to support research and ensure animal health in a fashion consistent with best working standards. This position supports numerous researchers and delivers logistical support to multiple ongoing studies.
