  Summary Description of Job:

  Manages the laboratory operations to provide analytical services for NFS operations, outside customer contracts, and regulatory requirements in a high quality, cost effective, and timely manner.

  Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  Develop and implement plans to achieve plan and laboratory goals in a high quality, cost effective, and timely manner.

  Assign responsibilities for operations and projects to appropriate laboratory staff personnel. Communicate expectations and verify performance, as required.

  Prepare laboratory staff, operating expenses, and capital equipment budgets. Control routine operations to budgetary levels or provide justification for variances.

  Evaluate and approve laboratory procedures and reports for technical merit, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

  Prepare laboratory cost proposals for customer inquiries based on technical requirements and any applicable regulatory compliance or process control requirements.

  Coordinate laboratory activities with other departments to optimize overall NFS operations. Serve as primary laboratory liaison for inter-departmental and upper management communications.

  Ensure laboratory programs are established and operational to meet routine contractual, regulatory, and NFS requirements. Direct program changes as appropriate or required.

  Education Requirements of Job:

  B. S. -- Chemistry or Engineering preferred or 8 years' relevant experience in a technical environment in lieu of B. S. degree.

  Experience Requirements of Job (Beyond educational or equivalent requirements):

  With a B. S. degree, 9 - 10 years' leadership experience in a technical and regulated environment, preferably involving nuclear or other high-consequence material. This level of experience provides the required managerial skill necessary to effectively manage technical and a regulated environment with non-technical staff. Without a B. S. degree, 17 years' leadership experience in a technical and regulated environment, preferably involving nuclear or other high-consequence material. This level of experience provides the required managerial skill necessary to effectively manage technical and a regulated environment with non-technical staff.

  The base salary range for this position in Tennessee at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[custsalaryMin]] and $[[custsalaryMax]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
