We are recruiting for a Section Supervisor in the Permitting Services Section of the Air Quality Bureau. The Permitting Services Section is one of four sections within the Air Quality Bureau that are tasked with oversight of maintaining healthy air quality for a thriving Montana. The section is responsible for such tasks as application review, issuance of Montana Air Quality Permits & Title V Operating Permits, Portable Facility Registration Program, etc. Among other tasks, the Permitting Services Section Supervisor is responsible for: ● Air Permitting Quality/Consistency/Efficiency; ● Monitoring and Implementing Federal and State Regulations for Air Permitting; ● Staff Leadership/Communication/Management; and ● Collaboration among the four Air Quality Bureau Sections. The Permitting Services Section Supervisor gets to lead a diverse group of professionals by example, creating a culture of excellence, professionalism, and collaboration. The supervisor gets the opportunity to serve as a mentor and role model for staff. The Permitting Services Section Supervisor is on the forefront of air quality permitting review and approval in Montana. The Permitting Services Section Supervisor is responsible for the implementation of agency, division, and bureau direction and the oversight of day-to-day operations of the section. This position leads staff to accomplish goals by clearly and effectively communicating priorities and expectations to personnel, develops and coordinates annual work plans with personnel, provides meaningful and timely feedback to personnel, manages personnel, implements the professional growth matrix, and aligns section operations with DEQ strategic plans. The person in this position works with its Bureau Chief to establish direction, identify strategy, inform of interest/controversy, and assess effectiveness of operations. Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, life science, chemistry, physics, or a related degree in natural resources and three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience in an environmental field. Demonstrated experience in successfully leading people is required, although this may be from roles other than formal supervisory experience.
