About Advanced Composite Processing Methods Development - Year In Industry 12M Placement

  Fantastic challenges. Amazing opportunities.

GKN Aerospace is reimagining air travel: going further, faster and greener! Fuelled by great people whose expertise and creativity sets the standards in our industry, we’re inspired by the opportunities to innovate and break boundaries. We’re proud to play a part in protecting the world’s democracies. And we’re committed to putting sustainability at the centre of everything we do, opening up and protecting our planet. With over 15,000 employees across 38 manufacturing sites in 12 countries we serve over 90% of the world’s aircraft and engine manufacturers. There are no limits to where you can take your career.

  The Opportunity:

GKN Aerospace is the original aerospace innovator. For decades, GKN Aerospace technologies have inspired and industrialized the aerospace industry, combining engineering excellence and technology leadership. Our aerostructures, engine systems and special products improve the performance of more than 100,000 flights every day. By working closely together with universities, knowledge institutes, suppliers and customers, we lead the industry in developing new technology to improve aircraft efficiency: lowering aircraft cost, weight and emissions.

Together as “one GKN” we’re moving our business and industry forward developing technologies that rapidly decarbonise aircraft, and innovating to help build a new generation of planes that produce zero emissions. We’re putting sustainability at the heart of what we do; driving our objective to becoming a net zero greenhouse gas emissions business before 2050!

For the fourth and consecutive year we have a number of exciting internship opportunities based at our £32M state-of-the-art Global Technology Centre in Bristol. State of the art manufacturing technologies would be used to manufacture prototype aero-structure components to meet customer requirements & to form a basis for future technology developments.

Project 2 - Aerospace and Automotive Supply Chain Enabled Development (ASCEND)

ASCEND is a cross-sector composite Technology and Supply-Chain development programme, joining the Aerospace & Automotive supply chains and led by GKN Aerospace. It is a £39m, 3 year collaborative programme with 16 partners and is part funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) that has been running since early 2021. ASCEND is focused on developing composite and adjacent technologies that will allow the UK aerospace & automotive industries to meet the future high-rate production manufacture needs of the growing civil aircraft & future mobility markets through Automation, design for Manufacture and Skills Development, whilst sustainably reducing the Cost of Manufacture and Carbon Footprint.
