  The Department of Corrections is looking to hire a Special Teacher for our Faribault Facility. The Special Teacher exists to:

  To provide literacy, English Language Learning, secondary credential, post-secondary preparation, and/or other adult basic education (ABE) instruction in a well-managed and comprehensive instructional environment to support incarcerated persons (IP) Personal Education Plans.

  To develop and use curriculum based on state ABE standards, and integrate methods of instruction - to include whole class, small group and individual instruction - to serve all types of learners and learning styles.

  To assess, monitor and record IP progress and to direct teaching assistants and IP tutors to promote effective IP learning.

  This position will have direct contact with incarcerated students.

  Minimum Qualifications

  To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.   Bachelor‘s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.AND

  Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Professional Minnesota teaching license. *An applicant with a Tier 1 license may be considered if the DOC is unable to recruit an applicant with a Tier 2, 3, or 4 teaching license in the specific licensure field required.   Preferred Qualifications

  The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  Possession of a current Minnesota Tier 3 or 4 teaching license.

  Experience working in an education setting.

  Experience working in a correctional setting.

  Experience teaching Adult Basic Education.

  Full-time teaching experience as a licensed teacher.

  Physical Requirements

  Additional Requirements

  The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

  Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

  New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
