The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate in Materials Science and Engineering or comparable disciplines in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Physical Chemistry for the design of reactor structural materials in the Nuclear Science & Technology Division.
A successful candidate will have a background in using advanced characterization techniques, such as scanning electron/focused ion beam microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, tomography, and spectroscopy techniques, to aid in elucidating the degradation mechanisms (e.g. corrosion, irradiation, magnetic fields, etc.) of nuclear structural materials.
Minimum requirements:• PhD Requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years• PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, or Physics• Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English
Preferred Requirements:• Experience with using advanced characterization techniques to study corrosion of structural materials• Interest in materials development using additively manufactured systems• Experience with in-situ characterization techniques• Experience with conducting electrochemical experiments• Interest in educational outreach, teaching, and mentoring
